What rank is a Oberfunkmeister equivalent to in the US Armed forces? Just curious as that has to be one of the coolest names for a rank I have ever heard.

What ever happend to the following
Feldwebel
Obegefrieter... etc? isnt that Sgt. and Corporal in the German army or were the ranks also changed after WWII?
I would of thought that the rank system would of stayed the same.

These links seem to be about the old WW2 rank system.

The principal ranks stayed more or less the same as in the Wehrmacht, you still have the Gefreiter, Feldwebel, Hauptmann, Major etc...
But the Wehrmacht had a lot more "specialized" and in-between ranks for "extraordinary" positions such as the Oberfunkmeister. These were mostly dropped, in the Bundeswehr the Heer and Luftwaffe have the same ranks while the Marine has the same amount of "navalized" ranks.
There are only two significant exceptions: the rank of the recruits is different according to their branch of service (for example Gunner, Engineer, Hunter), and the medical branches of the services have their entirely own ranks.
