Production began in 1976, would someone know when IMI stopped making this rifle? Thanks!

Cheers

1st of all there is a new name for a company IWI. After some privatization and reorganization was made.

And yes, at least it’s still in there catalogue.

Yes, it says there "AR 5.56mm or 7.62mm". The actual pdf file on the AR, however, lists only the 5.56mm version. I am also sure I read somewhere they stopped making the things, but of course that's why I asked ;)

By the way, I notice they don't offer the basic Uzi any longer. Anyone know when they stopped making that? Thanks!

May be I am wrong but there is no mass production of Galil. There is no need. IDF won't buy any of in nearest future (I think never). So its only big purchase available I guess.

Privatization? Last year As Far I remember.

Production of full size Uzi stopped in Israel , I think in 80th.

Not sure.

Aren't the Estonians equipped with Galils?

Don't they make their own R4?

Steven Andrews uses the 7.62 x 51 model :)

(...although I'm going to sell it as I prefer my Winchester M14...(

The R4 is just a Galil clone.

Please keep this on topic. This thread is about the 7.62x51mm variant of the Galil -- not the 5.56x45mm one, or indeed its South African or any other foreign copies.

I thought the South African Galil was also used in 7.62mm?

No. The R4, R5, and R6 are all 5.56x45mm. Likewise the Galils used by the Estonians. The Colombians acquired some 10,000 in 7.62x51mm, but the variant they are building under license is 5.56x45mm, as well.

The Vektor Galils all have longer stocks, and all use plastic furniture. The R4 is akin to the Galil AR, the R5 to the Galil SAR. The R6 however is not a straight MAR clone, and in terms of size is situated between the SAR and the MAR.

Yes the R-4 stock is quite different, it's larger and made of non metalic materials so it doesn't get so damned hot in the African bush
