Yeah, the marines tend to go for the 'elite' aspect in their recruitment stuff. '99.99% need not apply' etc. This is probably the best one I've seen too.

It's quicktime...
I first watched that commercial in Cinema(yes, in England)...
Dang, British people sure know how to make good Commercials
pre-2000 British Army commercials were very good too, it shows the harsh realities of war directly... I wish I have links for such vidoes, but I haven't been able to find them.
This is navy commercial, very good too

I also remember those British commercials were they had this Johnny-carachter.
After a few sec there were always an arrow pointing at Johnny. Quite funny.

holy jebus that is some mighty good recruit commercial
I also remember those British commercials were they had this Johnny-carachter.
After a few sec there were always an arrow pointing at Johnny. Quite funny.
That was the "Frank" campaign. It showed a bunch of lads on the beach, windsurfing, or playing football. Then an arrow with "Frank" above it would point at one of the lads in each scene. The final scene if I remember correctly was "Frank" and his girlfriend, then the Army logo flashed up with the words "To be Frank, join the Army". :cantbeli:
I'd already joined the Royal Air Force instead. rofl

When you join in Britain, how long do you sign up for?
And if you've served, like one year in the navy as a rate, can you apply for, say RM?

As I remember it, this Johnny-carachter was already in the army.
I remember one scene were they rapelled down a mountain in high speed and one arrow pointing at Johnny.
There were also one para-scene were the arrow pointet were Johnny was in the sky.
Also those commercials were they take off their sunglasses and the locals automaiclly calm down was quite good commercials.
Some adds in magazines were you see a soldier puke and the writing says: "Are you up for it?" are quite good.
Damn, the Brits made'em so good that I almost joined while walking by a reqruitment office in London not that far away from Trafalgare Squeare.
I went in, had a look around. Took a deep breath and a sigh,...and then walked disapointedly out again. :|

One of my fav ads is for the US Airforce PJ's...shows a bunch of people camping and one of them loses their backpack in the river and it goes over the falls. One of them jumps into the water fall to retrieve the bag and when he comes up. It flips to him in full combat gear coming out of the water.....at least thats what I remember.

Yeah that was a very cool ad. I wish we had something like it. :) Most of Americans Military ads about getting money for collage.
Is there any video ads about joining the Rangers that I can download?
I remember seeing posters along time ago of Join the Rangers and things like that.

When you join in Britain, how long do you sign up for?
And if you've served, like one year in the navy as a rate, can you apply for, say RM?
It varies, dependant on service and officer/other rank:
Royal Navy:
Ratings join on an initial engagement, or Open Engagement, which is for a period of 22 years from the age of 18. If you wish to leave during the 22 years then you are allowed to give 12 months' notice at any time after serving two years 6 months. Officers join on an initial commission of 12 years, but you are able to leave either during training or when training is completed. A return of service of between three and five years is required dependant on branch (see individual job profiles).
Royal Air Force:Minimum time in the RAF:
Officers: 4–12 years
Trades: 9 years
British Army: For the initial period after joining the Army individuals are able to be “Discharged As Of Right” (DAOR). There is no obligation to stay during this time. The length of the period of DAOR is 6 months for under 18s and 3 months for over 18s after turning up at the Army Training Regiment. Individuals after this time are committed to serve for a minimum engagement of 4 years. There are of course allowances made for medical and exceptional compassionate circumstances. (May be different for Officers).
2nd question. I doubt it, but I have no info to back my position up. (Ask Royal :D ) Specifically, RN people could move to a unit supporting the RM's, (eg, 845NAS, 846NAS etc) take the Commando course to get the green beret, and work with Marines, but they would still be part of the Navy. Same applies for the RM's artillery and engineer units, they are made up of Commando trained Army soldiers. The RN website says (or said) RM officers can transfer to the RN, but that this is quite rare.

Yeah I remember seeing this ad, was on before LoTR: Return of The King when I went to see it :).
Haven't seen any other ads recently apart from the omnipresent TA ads on TV, the one with those wierd looking guys chatting up the TA nurses in a bar and the one with the guy giving his baby a bath and directing troops on a beach landing :).

US citizens cannot join the UK military unless you have your green card and bla bla bla. Last time I checked...they were reviewing the possibilities of US citizens joining just like other commonwealth countries.

COI Communications have worked with the Royal Navy to produce an advertising campaign to attract the 'right' recruits to apply to become Royal Marine Commandos.
The Royal Marines need to maintain 5,000-plus responses per year in order to take on 1,180 new recruits with the strength of mind needed to become a Royal Marine.
The target audience was 16 - 24 year-olds and the campaign sought to attract quality response. It was designed to appeal to those with the fitness, commitment, discipline and self-confidence needed to complete the 30[32 Now]-week basic training course and physically demanding endurance tests.

Thats a great vid
I hope to start my basic in a couple of years, and I can't wait to go through them tunnels.
Even worse then them submerged tunnels, is this phase during your basic, where your strapped with your companions upside down in a helicoptor hanging over a big tank pool. They drop the helicoptor in the tank, and you must escape.
Pretty scary lol
