View Full Version : About 007’s weapon (or new weapon)
Now that Daniel Craig has been cast as the new James Bond, any chances that he will be issued with the newer Walther P99 (post 2004 models)?
I was very pleased to see the new P99 has Weaver equipment rail and bigger rear slide serrations (not sure how I feel with the lack of front slide serrations). Although I’m embarrassed to admit I did find the original P99 more physically attractive.
I was, however, very disappointed to find Walther didn’t adopt dove-tailed sights along with their improvements. I know Glock don’t have dove-tail sights either so I guess I can let it go…very reluctantly though.
One last thing, if it is not too much to ask, let’s keep this discussion relates to weapons, not actor(s). Much appreciated.

Much appreciated.I never liked him carrying the P99, too bulky for that kind of work, I always preferred the PPK or some other compact pistol. But anyway, I heard that EON ordered a bunch of PPK's recently and no P99's. If that rumor's true then I guess we know what pistol zero-zero will be carrying. :D

My understanding is that the new movie is set years ago, thus 007 having the PPK.

He may even have what he had before the PPK, the Beretta .380(?).

I was watching an old Bond movie the other day and M was giving Bond hell for carrying the .25 Beretta. Made him take the PPK which the tech guy said, "7.65 mm; hits like a brick going through a plate glass window."
I thought, "A .32 hits like that? Since when?"

Since it replaced his .25 ;)! At least it was an improvement on that, "more suited to a ladies handbag". In the novel Dr. No, Bond comments that he sometimes uses a Colt .45 revolver for when more power is required, that's probably a little more "plate through a plate glass window" material.

USPcs and P226 are too 24...
They're not bond material, he needs something with style... i'd like to see him using something like a Ruger mk.1, even if it is .22

The 9mm ASP was used by James Bond in the John Gardner novels. It's a good choice, but it's getting on in years.
I've tried a Smith and Wesson 9mm Chiefs Special recently. This might be a good replacement for the ASP.
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/8364/pict00533qg.jpg
It's flat, it's small, it's very very light, and it has a butter smooth trigger. I'm sure James Bond would appreciate it.
Compared to this little gun, even the SIG P239 felt chunky and heavy.
PPK
Anything else is change for the sake of change. Bond is a crack shot no matter what he uses, it goes between the eyes. .25, .32, .380, 9mm it is all the same to Bond, James Bond.....Game over.
p7m8 for edc
p7m13 for shtf
compact, reliable, cdi factor, very accurate, great trigger (something a crack shot would appreciate), fairly exotic and that whole squeeze cocking thing is going to give you some time in case a bad guy got hold of it and tried to get the drop on you.
plus he tends to use silencers a fair bit, the whole gas system would be a better choice then a browning tipping barrel like the hi power or the glock etc...
usp compact ain't all that compact.
sigs are ok but everyone knows SEALS use them and i read on an internet forum once that SEALs can't hit the side of a barn with their pistolas. i am actually feeling some lurve for the 239.
nothing american, bond wouldn't do that.
what's left in the exotic bin? sphinx, sig 210, jericho, korth, hk p9, a compact cz derivative, that neat south african da?
imho, the only logical choice for bond is the hk p7.

I'm getting one of those when I get back from OS, just not in the slab side. And since you showed good taste with this post I'll ignore the Taurus comment;-) The Taurus' would be good pistols if they would just get rid of that *censored* long pull DAO trigger.

FWIW: The "finger long" technique is a development of the 80´s. James Bond however is set in the 60´s, as well as (technically) most of the films ;)

Whatever he carries, it should be commercially available worldwide with a calibre available "off the shelf". Makes me think that with the mass of chicom/eastern block firearms and ammo availiable he should carry a Makarov. Heres the arguement - its deniable, reliable, and its as accurate you need it to be.
How about a "Bryco"... like the J-38.
It costs under 100 bucks so it's no problem if Bond loses it (=> Q doesn't have to bother him about it).
It doesn't look tooooo sexy though !?!
