From my understanding, the main difference between the A2/A3/A4 is that the A2 comes with the Safe/Semi/Burst trigger group and non-removable carry handle, the A3 with Safe/Semi/Auto group, in addition to a removable carry handle, and the A4 has the same removable carry handle, with a Safe/Semi/Burst group as with the M16A2.

Piccolo hit it on the head. I've not seen the A3 or A4 in service, I'm not sure what the deal is with them.

I beileve the A3/A4 was used by the 3rd Infantry in some pictures on this website, because they had scopes.

KAC RAIL SYSTEM? what is that now?
Piccolo

It's part of the SOCOM package, odh. Basically a rail system used to easily mount various accessorys. Most SOF have them on their M4's; American, British, Australian, Polish, etc.
just tell him what it means. KAC stands for Knights Armament Corperation, and the rail system is the RIS unit, Rail interface system, nothing new, just different terminology

British SF don't have them on their M4's 'cos they use C7/8's
Don't do a project on guns. Someone will think you have only 50 cards.

Yes, good point. I am still under the impression they have a few in stock, however. No big deal though, I realize Royal Marines have C8's largely, but it's hard to indentify what exactly the SAS/SBS blokes are carrying, because pictures of them are naturally not very detailed.

well it's not that...i don't love guns...my teacher said that we can do a project about anything we want...so i was like ok i'll do military...but teacher said it would be like a 20 page essay so i said guns and she was like still too much so i said M-16 and she was like alright....that's why..
there's a history channel documentary on the m16, from its roots up to when the US armed forces adopt the m-16a2. It gives you a lot of information on the politics, growing pains etc. associated with the gun. It doesn't really have much info past the m-16a2 so the more recent models aren't on it. It also has no information on the c7/8. I figured since it was a 20 page essay you would want the in depth history on it so you can...bull **** :) cuz that's all 20 page essays are...facts with lots of bull...
i for one hate the MLA format...
what grade/year in college are you in anyway to be writing a 20 page essay?

Notice that he lives in Bahrain, boys.....
He doesn't have the f#$%ing politically correct crap over there prob. I bet ppl there can own AK47's.....
Anyway, go ahead odh...
Also: The Brits certainly do use the KAC, just call them up and ask. The C7/C8 are %100 compatible with all M16/M4 accessories in case any of you armchair commando losers didn't know. And dont ask if the M16 is a bullpup or has a SUSAT sight.... one person already made that mistake, dumb asshole. :bash:
BTW: The USMC got M16A4's.... As a matter of fact, US Army Reserves have gotten them not too long ago with M68's (Aimpoint basically...)

Woodland, you got a serious attitude problem. You criticise people who don't know but who want to learn and you haven't seem to grasp the simple concept of "respect" or "manners". Course, you'll probably call me an asshole or something for saying that. ;)

Sorry if it came off as I were picking on odh. No, go ahead, I grant you my blessing (would bestow sound better? Not too sure...) If you don't mind I would liek to see a copy of the finished product myself. Just post it here, or since it is 20 pages, go ahead and post that you have it, then I will give you my email...
Wait a minute. It won't be in English, or will it? American school, right? Just guessing.
Woodland! is GAY!!! (notice the emphasis on the !, and I am not Wooland!, I am woodland)

I realize Royal Marines have C8's largely
SBS troops in East Timor (1999) were using three weapons from what I saw: SA80, M-16A2 and HK53 (close protection team).
As Piccolo metnioned I'd bet they're still in the armoury and hanging around.

Saw a guy on Sky near Basra with a PTT comms kit, black LBV and H&K 53 with the later model flash suppressor looking after some Brit head shed type. SBS or RMP CPT. Surprised they hadn't gone over to the C8/M4 as I've seen SBS guys in AFG carrying them...

RMP (& RMMP) CP still use the HK53 out of choice, for the same reason that UK CivPol don't use C8/M4 - they consider the 53 is more accurate and generally better suited to that role.
Didn't see the clip, but I'd lay money the guy was a monkey, the shakies have better things to do at the moment...
