I've always wondered... besides looking cool, what is the point of blousing your boots(or being nasty and tucking them in)? I mean when we did humps or did water obstacles the water would always get trapped in the blousings and make my legs heavy as hell until my pants slowly drained.

I know that it helps keep dirt, sand, and little critters out of your clothing while walking through various terrain. Going through woods, it helps keep ticks off your legs as your go through thick brush.

just use elastic bands to tie up ur combat trousers instead of putting them into ur boots..if ur in water ur gonna get wet regardless..

'cos it looks smarter than tucking them into your boots (which reminds me of John Major tucking his shirt unto his underpants)?

I dunno, I just use the drawcords on the legs and tie them loosely....

I use trouser elastics or elastic bands. Tucked low, just looks smarter. Tucking your trousers into your boots just makes you look so half arsed. It's like not doing your helmet chinstrap up, you look like a biff.

Christ knows the actual reason, I heard something along the lines of it helps to keep water out the tops of your boots when it's raining.

Princess Di was our Colonel In Chief. In the photo of her in Bn HQ she was wearing her trouser-blousers on the outside of her combat trousers.

I wonder who dressed her...?

I'd have put her on Show Parade.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH

And the burn marks associated with removing the bugs!

Bugs are a problem in alotta places, other than that, I leave mine un-tucked when I'm in water. Drains faster.

Blousing??? We just tuck it in our boots, BDUs/ACUs are camo'd so you can't really tell if someone is using the elatic strap thingies anyways. It all looks the same to me. Besides around here only the pogues use the blousing straps . . .

All of those damn pogue cadets......

I just tucked them in when I was there. Now I'll tuck them in if the weather is nice. Blouse them over my boots if its raining and leave that crap open if its hot.

Pogue cadets?????????
hahahahahaha........as opposed to all the other cadets who are already grunts? sorry dude, you may have already selected your branch, but I don't think you can start calling other people pogues until you've actually been commissioned. wait the 2 and a half months and then you can officially climb on top of your pedestal and be superior to everyone who is not in your MOS.

Yeah but I assumed that since he shows jump wings in his avatar that means he went to jump school, which correct me if I'm wrong, you guys do between your junior and senior years. So, that would mean he went to jump school last summer, and is now a senior who should be graduating in 2+ months.

I'm pretty sure you can go to jump school anytime as long as you are a contracted cadet, which could be as early as your first year in ROTC.

Alot of guys here use the simple elastic green ones with the clasp, (when with R Regt C and 2 IR RC) but I was in fort knoxx a few years back this lady tells me her hubby is a light col who wore em his whole life and has marks cutinto his leg, F*** that noise, I switched to the velcro ones long ago.

Cheers
Anyone here on raging wolf? 33CBG in Pett? I'll be with the irish.

Negative. You can go either between your soph and junior years or between junior and senior. It all depends on scheduling issues and the type of schools / experiances you are trying to get in to.

How the hell do you use those velcro straps? Another candidate bought some on liberty and we couldn't figure how to put them on...

I have never understood why people us blousing bands, and even less so why these folks look down upon those who don't. The boots were meant to be tucked in. You don't snag then in the brush, critters don't get inside your boots as easily, and more importantly, people don't laugh at you when you sit down and they're looking at your socks!
I never bloused mine, nor did anyone around me.

Roger that.
I was Army ROTC back in the late 90s, and we had several cadets that became "five jump chumps" and a couple that went to Mountain Warfare school in Alaska between their Sophomore and Junior years. I started ROTC in the Junior year (avoided the two previous years from having JROTC in high school), so I never got to do any of that then. I had CTLT right after advanced camp, so I never got any cool schools as a cadet.

But I gotta chuckle at the "pogue cadet" references. Angry Cow, you're gonna find out that once you get that "gold bar of obedience," you'll be looked at as a utter moron who doesn't know enough to be able to even die correctly. You'll look back on your cadets days and slap yourself in the face, realizing that "high speed cadet" is a gross contradiction in terms. :cantbeli:
Then, once you make O-2, you'll realize the same applies to being an O-1. Nobody's going to think you're good for much until you hit O-3 at the earliest. And even then, the field grades will treat you like a brainless wonder for a while...
Just deal with the fact that you'll be looked upon as a baby who knows nothing for at least the first few years. Go into active duty as a dry sponge, listen to everyone, and keep your trap shut.
Trust me, I heard this as a cadet, and it saved my backside MANY times when I did dumb things as an O-1....

I've always thought that blousing over the boot looked much better than tucking trousers in, especially when the boot laces were left hanging out.

When I was in the USMC part of blousing our trousers was just to look good, not necessarily for a useful reason. Most of the time when we went to the field we looked like a bunch of gypsies.

For walking out I'm a fan of the tucked in with trouser weights look. The weights keep everything from bunching up and looking dumb without having to go through the hassle of bousing straps.

In all honesty even when I'm in civvies (which is most of the time since i'm just ROTC) I use short puttees because I just HATE the feeling of stuff blowing up your pants. of course I dont use the weights with that though.
