View Full Version : Military Tats.....lemme see em!
Just curious as to who has Military tats......ONLY MILITARY TATS. I would like to gather a 'scrap book' of various tats from different services. If you have one, post a photo of it. But again, only if it is an actual tat on your person. NO FLASH PLEASE.

Tat's (especialy unit tats) are pretty stupid. Many young soldiers (& marines, sailors and airmen) get them early in their careers (yours truly included). Most regret them at a later date.
They are an interrogators dream in the event of capture and limit your options for SD and some SF employments.
Don't glorify them & if you're thinking about them, think twice - go for a T-shirt, you can take that off if you need too!!

Right on. I don't have a tatoo, nor am I in any services, but I think that not only the standards but the tatoos themselves are unnecessary. IF I were to ever get one, I'd wait until my planned military career is over, then put it there, after I would have earned the right to wear one. And it wouldn't even be a military tat.
I saw on a documentary of BUD/S training that students with tatoos sometimes have to swim more laps, or do more overall because of the plausible deniability thing. There was one student who already had the Trident etched on his chest, and he was severely punished throughout his entire training cycle for it.

Royal....again you amaze me. NEVER MIX YOUR OPINIONS AND ASSUMPTIONS WITH TOPICS YOU SHOW THAT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. I will take it upon myself to correct the fact that you have very little knowledge with tattoo's and Marines. Please tell me how many of the more than 172,000 active duty US Marines you have spoken with that "REGRET" they have a MOTO tat??? What about the retired ones???.........That's what I thought. Speaking as a US Marine, the small fraction of a percentage who regret it are usually those who are discharged with an O.T.H, B.C.D. or Dishonorable. You and Eagle there would obviously not even begin to understand what it means to hold the title of a US Marine.
That I will not hold against you personally.
The MAJORITY of Marines have a moto tat (whether it be an Eagle, Globe and Anchor, 'USMC', or something that is representative of the Marine Corps.) and the only real complaint is that the ink is fading or it's not enough for 'em. Find a retired US Marine, ask the samequestion and seee if he doesn't give you a look as if you had lost your mind.
......Choose your words carefully, because when such comments are made about a topic you know very little about, you draw criticism towards yourself in a negative way.

Breacher - my point stands.
As you should be able to see, I am not a member of the USMC, I'm a ROYAL MARINE. I never said I wasn't proud to be either a marine or an RM.
So, I'm speaking with a perspective from across the pond (& with the hindsight of 18 years service). I was also offering some advice to the many SF wannabe's who lurk on this site.
You keep your USMC tat and be proud of it - I got rid of mine...
NEVER MIX YOUR OPINIONS AND ASSUMPTIONS WITH TOPICS YOU SHOW THAT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT
listen to your own advice, there's no need to jump at each others throats like that

breacher, I won't comment on what the others have pointed out about your post, but I agree completely with Royal.
A lot of soldiers marines airmen, whatever get their cap badge tattooed on them (usually while under the influence) and regret it, not because they are not proud of their Regiment, but because its a damn stupid thing to do. People change, occupations change. Those guys with the globe and laurel on their arms will have that until they die or get the laser.
You can't change your mind afterwards and it does limit your employment options after you leave.
