So you got the local PD and SWAT plus the cops in suits and the usual crew of USSS agents.
Then there's these guys in 511's and all-black gear:

Read in an article on Reader's Digest years back that the US President's security detail is capable of thwarting a small military coup. That says a lot about the kind of firepower they carry around.

why? are the agents doing something illegal?
they provide security to public people, its unavoidable to not be photographed

Well, the BGs in my country seem to be very conscious of cameras unless your videocamera or still camera has the sticker that they provide after having it checked by the detail which accompanied the president.

Well, that's something you expect in the secure area. But not outside of it. They are still tight in security though even at the outside.
whichever country you from the procedures will be similar if not the same anywhere
I guess so, but at least in the US, as shown by the pictures, they can afford to smile for civilian cameras, especially during those moments when the principal is still far from the areap-)

first post ever, hope it works.
here are a few pictures of Australian federal police bodyguards and a mp cpp team.the afp bodyguards are are guarding pm Kevin Rudd as he arrives on the tarmac, there is also a pic of afp bodyguards protecting nz pm john key while he visited sydney. the last picture is an old one of john Howard arriving at a liberal party conference.
btw someone said earlier (3 years ago) that Australian dignitaries don't get security. this isn't true they have received some level of protection since primeminister billy Hughes was assaulted in 1915 at a political rally, after which he formed the commonwealth police(now the Australian federal police) which has offered protective security to the prime minister other ministers and the governor-general. although over the years many have turned down security.

I attended a industry dinner with John Howard as the speaker in around 2003 and it was interesting to watch the sweeps before the dinner as well as the way in which the security details moved around the room. They seemed like good guys.
Further the extent of the external security was interesting to watch as well considering we were in a small rural town miles from anywhere.
Thanks for posting.

Your question reminded me of a portion in the SAS Survival Secrets series where Eddie Stone presented an umbrella as part of the BG kit :) And he said something like: "An umbrella... what for? In case it rains..." p-)

A dumb question: Why the USSS agents have the hands like that(Like praying if you will). To have them closer to their guns?
No Sir, if you work the inner circle of a principals detail you do not go for your gun, you will always lose a speed-draw competition if you start to draw from the point you see an assailants visible gun.
The reason for the hands to be kept on chest-level is that it is somewhat faster to grab an assailants hand holding a weapon and deflect it downwards sideways from that up-high position than to start your move all the way from the belt. Just as it is a higher probability for you to be able to block a strike if you have your hands up when the strike comes than down at your belt, right? Tenths of a second are crucial in deflecting an attack.

Somewhat unrelated when it comes to bodyguards imo. Think most of the money went to new equipment for all services involved (radios/communication equipment and whatnot). Looking forward to a lot of RCMP close protection Officers pictures though.

Read in an article on Reader's Digest years back that the US President's security detail is capable of thwarting a small military coup. That says a lot about the kind of firepower they carry around.
Like 10 years ago some guy boasted what he heard from a cop friend. The cop was helping with Secret Service during a presidential visit and a SS agent showed off a SUV with a anti-air missile system. I was told the agent pressed a button and a AA missile launcher pop up out of roof of the SUV.
Now that dude who told me that mouthed off alot but somehow I believe that story.

What's ridiculous is that no one was arrested. One joker (blue shirt, brown trousers), makes four or so separate attacks and gets nothing but a gentle shove backwards each time.

I'd love to see some more pics, also. Guy with US flag patch and AK is interesting, and I'm curious to see what the weapon on the hip of the guy with the red-brown cap is.

hard to tell, could be a revolver, a sawed off shotgun or even a knife. who knows? those types of SF guys probably can carry whatever they like.
