Anybody ever read a 1980's book about soviet military power in 1980's called 20 Million Bayonets? It's got some rare pics and accurate info. :D

cool pics Nik, but I think the most common translation for the name is Zubr.

I saw a Discovery doco on hovercraft but this beast was not shown. Only a much smaller transport model the US uses was shown... and the US soldier interviewed stated the British invented them and we (the US) perfected them. Aparantly the AIST class and the Zubr (POMORNIK) don't exist...

They probably showed the Landing Craft Air Cushioned (LCAC). The US Marines use them for hauling armor and large amounts of just about anything ashore. They're alot smaller than that Russian hovercraft but are designed to fit inside Amphibious Assault Carriers.
