The source says those bird age is 20-30 years, and from six of them only two ready in service due to spare parts problem during embargo.
By the way those birds for free dude, and the Airforce could strength their air superiority in short moment.

Old Hawk Mk 53 TNI AU
http://adiewicaksono.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/hawk-100.jpg?w=574&h=382[/QUOTE]
Correction; the aircraft in the picture is not Bae Hawk Mk 53
That is the Hawk 109, far more newer than the Hawk 53 trainers. And these Hawk 109's babies. There's the single seat version called the Hawk 209 with the similiar colour scheme that are able to carry AGM-65 air-to-ground missiles. Nevertheless both the 209 and 109's are capable of carrying AIM-9 air-to-air missiles.

But the air force would still have to pay for spare parts for these aircrafts.. Why not save the money, and just concentrate on keeping the current inventory flying. And oh yea; maybe some decent air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles for the Sukhoi's ? Because I find it pointless for buying those fighter/intreceptor jets if they're just carrying dumb bombs and FFAR missiles ..
Still, though they're freebies, the airforce gotta do some quality assessments for these 67s,mainly navigations and the airframe itself.Well we don't want another mishap that costs lives now do we...I think it's safer to keep it as a well-maintanced trainer rather than converting it to an LCA,we can't put a lot of stress on the old birds' airframes,at least the airforce would get the benefit of having more capable jet pilots in the future

Thanks for the correction but phyisically hawk 209 and 53 slightly the same, discussing the aircraft donation proposal this is not the first time the Indonesian Airforce had this offer, a few time ago Qatar offered their old Mirages too for donation but our Minister of Defence denied this offer due to their maintenance cost is high and we never had this aircraft before. If we want the new type of aircraft so it must be brand new, coz it's worth with the facility, maintenance and training cost we have to prepare.
Qatar Mirage 2000

@Aghost
That picture is the old Mirage F-1,the ones that Qatar offered to Indonesia are the much newer Mirage 2000-5,a full squadron was offered for free but because of the high maintanance cost these Mirages, the Pakistanis had interest in procuring, were rejected

So they offered us newer Mirage 2000, I took the picture and info from Alutsista blogspot and didn't know that it was Mirage F-1, if true they offered newer Mirage 2000.... Wow...
But I am still agree with Minister of Defence to denied the offer, it's costly..
Yeah, other than being costly the delta-wing configuration is also the main concern because the pilots don't have the experience of flying and manuvering that type of aircraft before

I just want to post three .50BMG Snipers that TNI use currently in Kostrad and Marines which is the Truvelo .50, the DENEL NTW-20, and the notorious Barrett M107. One thing peculiar about DENEL's besides the bullpup configuration is the magazine itself which is fed from the side,I don't know why the engineers at DENEL did that.I don't have images of the soldiers actually using or holding the guns,sorry:roll::roll:
the ntw-20 magazine designed to fed from the side because the ammo was so heavy. so it would be more efficient with the side magazine configuration..
i read it from ".50 cal long range sniper rifle" published by commando
btw salam kenal semuanya :)

Welcome...
The heavier the ammo, the more sense it makes to have a top or bottom lmag well. A heavy one sided mag got to affect the way you shoot. I had a 90rd one sided drum on AR before. It's annoyingly heavy on one side. (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MAG055-36.html)
As far as the free birds... I say TAKE THEM ALL. You can retire them anytime if the AU feel they are more of burden than an effective combat asset. The reason TNI doesn't like free stuffs is because there won't be MONEY changing hands... so there wont be any kind of kick back. Bah! :bash:

Thanks for the Mk109 pic!
Yes, the Mk67 will be a perfect replacement for our 2+4 Mk53s.
->Afatar: Selamat datang!
->Jagi: Our Mk53s are bought around 1980. We are the fourth costumer after GB (MkT1), Finland (Mk51) and Kenya(Mk52).
The Korean Mk67 are bought around 1992.
With 60 Hawks (20 Mk53, 8 Mk109 and 32 Mk209) we are also one of the biggest Hawkcustomers.
I have a question, between AU's Mk.53,Mk.109,and Mk.209 which one is the trainer version? Or maybe all of them are LCAs?

Hawk Mk.53=Advance Trainer (but right now in TNI-AU also use as Light Attack. that's why the Mk-53 join the 15th Skad, not in Skadik)
Hawk 109=Advance Trainer/Light Attack. development from Mk.60 series. also can be use as LIFT
Hawk 209=Light Attack, development from 100's series

Good news for TNI
Rp 60t to root out evil in police, TNI, AGO
Rendi A. Witular , THE JAKARTA POST , JAKARTA | Mon, 04/27/2009 10:42 AM | Headlines
A black plastic shopping bag filled with dozens of white envelopes stuffed with cash is tucked under the work table of a detective chief in a police precinct in Central Jakarta.
The envelopes are the detective’s catch of the day, comprising kickbacks mostly from alleged petty criminals who earlier negotiated their price of release with the precinct police chief.
Each of the envelopes contains between Rp 2.5 million (US$238) and Rp 10 million, paid depending on the level of the alleged violations. The precinct deals with an average of 15 such cases per day.
Around 6 kilometers to the north in the vicinity of Jl. Hayam Wuruk, still in Central Jakarta, an Army lieutenant is leading a squad of soldiers working as bouncers for a notorious nightclub providing in-house prostitution and a store of ecstasy pills.
Such stories have for decades undermined public confidence in the security and military forces. But this pervasive dark side may soon see the light of reform. This is the pledge of State Minister for State Administrative Reform Taufiq Effendi.
Taufiq said more than Rp 60 trillion (US$5.71 billion) would be poured this year into reforming the police and military (TNI), and the Attorney General's Office with the aim of preventing them from continuing to extort the public and from protecting the bad guys.
Taufiq, who is also a senior Democratic Party politician, said this huge budget was justified given the large number of personnel involved and the complexity of these problems.
Aside for developing new working and performance evaluation systems and infrastructure, the funds will also be used to lift the shockingly poor welfare of the law enforcers and military personnel by providing them with much better benefits.
The lowest rank of police and military personnel and prosecutors will now get a double rise in monthly take-home pay to at least Rp 3 million, while police and military generals and high-ranking prosecutors will get around Rp 40 million, according to Taufiq.....................

I've read the article about the VABs before, but its a little bit confusing. It looks like that the 2nd batch of VABs (the 32 vehicles) are locally made/assembled by Pindad. But, afaik, all the VABs are Renault made. The first batch (18) brand new and the second one from 2006 (32) second/bekas. So it has nothing to do with the Pindad Anoa, using renault engines.

Unfortunately, all Rapier, and RBS 70 are beyond their operation lifetime. They were to be replaced by the Polish Kobra and The Chinese 57mm + TD2000 system (QW3 manpads). There were some talk about reviving the Rapier in 2001 by the Canadian. That didn't go anywhere.
There were corporation between Pindad and MBDA to produce tracked/mobile Mistral 2 in 2007. No clear outcome on this either.
IMHO, we couldve gone w/ mobile TY90 offered by Norinco (for the same price). Few batteries on each of main airfields for SA point defense would be a start :)

Nah, menyangkut pengadaan barang dari luar negeri ini, Agustadi tampaknya masih punya pekerjaan yang harus dituntaskan. Yakni pekerjaan rumah peninggalan Jenderal Djoko Santoso.
About Mistral 2
Mistral 2 (France), Man-portable surface-to-air missile systems
Type
Man-portable surface-to-air missile system (MANPADs)
Development
In 2000, it was revealed by MBDA, that production had switched to the Mistral 2 missile, with improved aerodynamics and other enhancements to improve its performance. The Mistral 2 is in service with the French Army, Navy and Air Force and several other countries. In December 2006, it was announced by MBDA that it would joint with Indonesia's PT Pindad to form an industrial partnership to market an Indonesian variant of the Atlas (Mistral 2) short-range air defence system based on Pindad's Light Military Vehicle. MBDA are hopeful that this will fill the Indonesian requirement for a mobile, quick reaction, vehicle-mounted missile system for protection against fast and highly manoeuvrable aerial targets. During September 2007, it was announced that an Evolved Mistral has been developed with the primary aim for inclusion with the MMS (Multi-Mission System) mounted on vehicles such as the Thor and Spanish VAMTAC. This Evolved Starstreak has been designed with the low-level, low-signature airborne threats in mind such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and cruise missiles. The evolved Starstreak has an extended range, altitude and precision.

It is called "reflexive fire" practice. The objective is to build your reflex for weapon presentation, target acquisition, and engagement as quickly as possible. Basically it trains soldiers to shoot using less than perfect sight picture but still achieve respectable results at close range. Traditional sight picture acquisition requires 2 alignments in sequence:
1. sight alignment (aligning the rear aperture and the front sight post).
2. target to sight alignment (add target into the "picture" while maintaining the first alignment).
Reflexive fire simplifies the first alignment. In the method I was taught, you simply bring weapon to shoulder, obtain 'some' degree of cheek-weld, and use your front sight to acquire target. So the shooter does not get behind the rear aperture at all. This normally would make your POI (point-of-impact) to be higher than the perceived POA (point-of-aim). So, aim low is the norm. But you would want to aim a little low anyway at the distance this technique is expected to be used. By having your vantage point situated slightly above the rifle, you can see better what is in front of you. Being aware of your immediately front and sides is highly critical in close-range gunfight.
Once you are good, I am told that you can simply focus on the target, bring rifle to shoulder, and fire with accurate result without using any sighting at all. Purely reflexive in nature.
Now, the method above was created with iron sight in mind. Once you have a optical combat sight (like Aimpoint or Eotech) this method becomes moot point since you already have the device that allows you to by-pass the traditional 'sight-alignment'. But building the reflex of the soldier is still very important regardless what aiming device you use.

What? Are you sure?? TX does not allow OC! Perhaps OK only in private properties.
There is a state legislation being pushed through the state senate now to:
1. Allow CC in state universities and colleges.
2. Allow OC all across the state and take away local gov. from passing ordnance to ban OC in each local jurisdiction.
I am hopeful #1 would come true. :)
Do you need a CHL to carry a loaded gun in your car in CO? Here we don't need a license for it. As long as you are 21 or older and not prohibited from possessing a gun, you can carry a loaded handgun anywhere in your vehicle (including on your person).
The G19 is a very versatile package, isn't it? Small enough to CC, yet large enough to hold comfortably with respectable capacity. I love my G19 too.

I was in the panhandle, and most of the ranchers carry. You might be right on the private land part. Those guys are crazy bunch. We had a hog feeder so close to the truck then they were daring each other to kill one w/ a knife.
You don't need CHL to have loaded gun in the car or work place in CO. Open carry is allowed unless you in certain townships -- even then for the sake of not being hassled by the local LE.
G19 is extremely reliable and handy. I was showing one along w/ a G21 to couple of AU purnawirawan, they weren't impressed. They thought there were toy guns at first :)

I dont like to CC, because it's very hard to do so in the summer. I tend to wear polo and short most of the time. Make my day or castle law doesn't protect you in case of shoot out for self defense or not - and Denver cops tend to give us too much hassle even w/ the CCW.

Army chief meets soldiers who rioted in Jayapura
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Army Chief of Staff Gen Agustadi Sasongko on Thursday held a closed-door dialog with members of Army Battalion 751 Sentani who rioted in Jayapura, Papua, the day before.
Sasongko arrived in Jayapura at 9:30 local time on Thursday morning for the dialog with the hundreds of soldiers who staged a violent demonstration outside their commander`s office on Wednesday.
Cenderawasih Military Command information officer Lt Col Susilo said the army chief wanted to obtain first-hand information from the soldiers about Wednesday`s incident.
"At the meeting, the men of Battalion 751 will have an opportunity to tell the army chief in person what is on their mind and therefore the meeting is closed to the media," Susilo said.
He said all members of Army Battalion 751 Sentani were present at the closed-door dialog with Gen Agustadi Sasongko.
Earlier, on Wednesday, hundreds of soldiers from Battalion 751 staged a rally outside their commander`s office to protest a cut in their welfare allowance.
They also protested against their chief`s decision to collect money from them to cover the costs of the transportation by air to Nabire of the body of one of their peers who had died, Private Joko, and his funeral.
The angry soldiers also fired shots into the air, beat up civilian onlookers and journalists trying to cover the incident, and pelted stones and other objects at the battalion`s headquarters.

Most LEO in indo carry crossdraw unholstered even paspampres, as it offers better concealment, with those tiny .38s you can hardly see the gun print. But it drives me nuts to see them carry unholstered as gun metal and sweat dont mix to well not to mention the problem of defensive retension and retension while on the move. Thats the tricky part of the chain of command, your not supposed to by pass it. But if you have evidence of gross violation of the regulation, you can go one billet higher of the person you have grievances against (ANKUM of the officer you are having trouble with).
Another option is you can go to PROVOS if its criminally related

<H1>Guilty soldiers will face sanctions: Military chief
Erwida Maulia , The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Thu, 04/30/2009 3:53 PM | National
Indonesian Military Chief Gen. Djoko Santoso said Thursday sanctions would be imposed on those found guilty enticing soldiers to riot at the Sentani army base in Jayapura.
He said Army chief of staff Gen. Agustadi Sasongko was currently in Jayapura investigating the incident and questioning soldiers involved, and would legally process those found guilty, perhaps even in the military court.
“The army chief of staff is there now. The situation has been under control. I regret the incident and apologize to Sentani residents and to friends from the media, who must have been annoyed by the incident.
“We are waiting for a report from the Army chief of staff and will impose fair sanctions [on those found guilty],” Djoko told journalists after officially reporting the incident to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Presidential Palace.
The President has ordered him to immediately settle the problem.
The Jayapura army base erupted violently on Wednesday, as soldiers of Battalion 751 protested over the alleged embezzlement of their money by their commanding officer. The protest turned into a riot, coinciding with celebrations for West Papua's integration into Indonesia.
The soldiers demanded that the battalion's commander, Lieutenant Colonel Labok Sihotang, be held responsible for his actions. They questioned his decision requiring them to provide funds for the burial of their fellow soldier, Private Joko, in his hometown of Nabire, Papua.
These expenses should have been covered by the army, they said.
Djoko, however, seemingly defended the commander’s actions, saying sending the remains of dead soldier to Nabire would require chartering a plane at a cost of Rp 90 million (approximately US$8,200).
“The battalion cannot bear the costs, so it was decided that it bears half and the other half is shared [among the soldiers]. The battalion doesn’t have the [financial] capacity,” he said.
Djoko added the military would discipline and counsel soldiers to prevent any further incidents.
</H1>
$8200 ?! very expensive! A Cessna Caravan/Porter Pilatus PC-6 costs around $1500 /hour. Instead of using a Penerbad plane....

Nice to see a fellow gun enthusiast on this forum. I was born and raised in the south (TX and OK) and guns run in my blood.
I just wanted to solicit yall's opinions on CC positions. I was taught to carry my sidearm strong side high ride or IWB when i need deep concealement. I noticed that here in Indonesia, cops and military carry them crossdraw and unholstered. What do guyz think
Sorry for the late reply. Been busy working and mowing :-)
TNI and Polri personnel don't use holster to CC ?? Goodgrief! Isn't that dangerous though?? Talking about losing your gun, and worse yet ..... accidental discharge? I would not dare carrying a Glock without a good fitted holster.
I am new to CC myself. Still trying to figure out the best holster and CC method that fits me. Given the limited experience I have with CC, I can say though that I like strong side OWB carry with FBI-cant (or similar). High ride works for me too, but it depends on the gun, holster, and activity. I use a Gould and Goodrich leather holster that can do both high-ride and FBI-cant. With my G19, I found the high-ride position to be quite concealable (with oversized Hawaiian shirt on ~ I get the Tall-size so the shirt is longer and covers the gun better).
However, with non-duty belt (I wear 1.5" Wilderness instructor belt) the high ride tends to press on the hip more. This can cause some discomfort if worn for an extended period of time. I have a high-ride-only holster from Tagua. It conceals the piston very well, but with the gun sits so high the top (grip) tends to lean away from the body. Consequently, the muzzle goes in deeper toward the body thus creating the pressure point. My G&G holster does not do this as bad thanks to its wider surface area, but the wider surface area also makes it less concealable.
The FBI-cant is more comfortable since the gun is positioned about parallel to the belt. But this also makes the gun sits lower on your hip, thus increasing the risk of the lower tip of your pistol/holster "peeking" out from your shirt.
Of course this nothing beats the IWB method in terms of concealability. I have several IWB holster that I use off and on. I have used both leather and kydex holsters. I have tried different carry positions as well .... starting from 2, 3, and 4 o'clock, with straight up or forward cant position. Forward cant would conceal your gun better since the pistol grip will be pointing slightly up now instead of straight back. This reduces the risk of the grip printing on your shirt. Position-wise, 4 o'clock is the most comfortable for the hip. But I just feel it exposes the gun more and might print more. So if I have my G19 on me, I tend to carry it at 2 o'clock position, but can do this only for a short time. It gets too uncomfortable after a few hours. But if I have my G26 on me, I like to carry it in the 4 o'clock position. It is smaller so it prints less and the 4 o'clock position is more comfortable for extended wear.
I also love to carry my Springfield XD Service model. But the XD is thicker than the Glock. And my biggest gripe with XD is the take down key on the left side of the frame: it sticks out too much. So if you buy a kydex holster form molded specifically for this gun, it tends to have a slight bulge on the side to accommodate this take down key. This bulge, however small, can create an uneven pressure point and give you discomfort. So I am still looking for a good holster for this gun, but I love it nonetheless. Springfield now comes out with the XDM. And the excessive protrusion of the take down key has been alleviated.
Since this is a photo forum .... must post photos .... :-)

My wife can hold the G26 just fine. But the standard grip is too short for me. There is just enough space for my middle and ring fingers to hold on. My pinkie holds nothing but air ... not very stable for me. For range use, I just slap a G19 mag on the 26 and go. But for CC, I have replaced the mag base plate with this:
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=479904
It works great! Just enough material for my pinkie to hold on. And it adds an extra round to the mag.
9mm? I am still getting mine from the local WalMart. Just need to check them often. I found them last time about 2-3 weeks ago. I went to all 3 WalMart on Sunday morning. The first store was bone dry of ammo. But the second one was stocked high with 9mm, 45 ACP, 223, and 38 Spc. Unlike some who hoard ammo, I just buy what I need to shoot and replenish my stock (got a few cases tucked away somewhere from a couple yrs ago ... hehehe). So I bought 500 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of 45 ACP. They had at least 4000 rounds of 9mm and 2000 rounds of 45 that day.
I dare not imagine what that 15K ammo order cost you ..... OUCHHH !!

Not much.. they require min order of 10k to get wholesale pricing. So a few of us in the ar club pitch in. Low 300s per 1k of 556mm, $170 per 1k of 9mm etc etc... :)

Update about indonesian new subs from Jane's Defence:
Indonesia prepares to issue submarine requests for proposals
Indonesia is preparing to issue requests for proposals (RfPs) to South Korea and Russia later this year in a bid to procure two or three new submarines, Jane's has learnt. Under the plan, shipbuilders in either of these two countries would build the first boat with Indonesia's state-owned shipyard PT Pal constructing the second and third under licence.

Daewoo Shipbuilding will deliver the submarine to the Indonesian Navy by 2011, the shipbuilder said, adding that it plans to participate in Indonesia's project to construct new submarines.

How old is this P1? When did Pindad start producing this? Still has the internal extractor .... older design. Current HiPower uses external mounted extractor. Also notice the pin on the trigger is still in place ... my guess is the magazine safety device is still installed. I hate this device ... it makes the trigger pull horrible. Unless you polish your the contact surface where the safety device comes in contact with the magazine. But the trigger pull is still better (lighter and crispier) if you just remove the damned device.

I personally don't like the 19C for that reason.. The two flashes on top are overkill - especially if you shoot dirty ammo. I didn't notice any diff. on accuracy as some of the boards had mentioned though. Recoil is barely reduced too. Most guys who bought the C version got rid of them for the non comp version. I am not sure why TNI chose Comp'd version.
I use serpa for my sig and glock on 3 gun match. KCI mags are ok, spring are a tad heavier than the factory, but I have never had any issue w/ them. I shot about 2000 rd through that 2nd gen so far. The 33 rounders are factory..but there is no G logo on them.

as far the browning P1 clone.. I never got into hi power, but I know TNI AU used to prefer to carry makarov, which in my opinion is much more reliable. Doesn't Makarov 7.62x25 have much higher velocity than 9mm luger?

^^^
I have never seen 33-rd Glock factory mags with bare-steel construction like that. The ones I have are made of plastic with full steel lining inside, just like the regular capacity mags.
I have a Hungarian made HP copy (FEG). It is a true copy so parts are interchangeable with the real BHP. I don't know ... but the BHP design is very interesting to me. Gotta have a sample, even though it is only a copy.
Makarov shoots 9x18mm, not 7.62x25. MV and KE of 9x18 is lower than 9x19. I know TNI used to have the Tokarev TT33 in their inventory. This pistol shoots 7.62x25. I have a sample from Poland. Also have a CZ-52 in the same caliber. 7.62x25 is a fun cartridge. Small, fast, loud report, hefty recoil for its size. MV is around 1500 FPS for fresh ammo.

Sentani incident : Soldiers’ welfare needs attention
Rizal Sukma , JAKARTA | Tue, 05/05/2009 9:46 AM | Headlines
If a group of ordinary people went on a rampage, we would expect the police to handle the problem. But, when dozens of armed soldiers run amok, then we all have a problem. That was the problem when a number of soldiers from the Army’s Infantry Battalion 751 in Sentani, Papua, expressed their anger by staging a violent protest last week. During the incident, they destroyed infrastructure within the military compound and injured the deputy commander of the battalion.
Media reports suggested that the violent protest was triggered by the actions of the troops’ commander, Lt. Col. Lambok Sihotang, who had collected money from them to cover air transportation and funeral expenses for their fellow soldiers.
It was reported that the soldiers were protesting over the alleged embezzlement of their money by Sihotang.
The Army’s quick response to the incident, especially the removal of Sihotang from his position, is commendable. The Army leadership has begun to investigate the case, and promised to take stern action against those responsible. The soldiers have also been subject to disciplinary and administrative sanctions.
Continue on. (http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2009/05/05/sentani-incident-soldiers’-welfare-needs-attention.html).

everyone must have contingency plan for emergency situation. My family has two EVAC destination in time of emergency. For immediate evacuation, we will head out to a friend's house about 12 miles outside the city. It is in a country, well camouflaged, secluded, and easily defended for a short period of time. But for an extended emergency, we will go to a place about 200 miles south of here. It is owned by a family friend who have given us permission to come there if TSHTF in our town. 4000+ acres of wilderness, hundreds of head of cattles, numerous deer and other wildlife, fresh water from the creek (spring fed ~ this is the best water I have ever tasted!! so pure .... so refreshing! you can drink it straight from the ground). They own several houses there, mostly empty. We have access to one of those houses. So we got shelter, water and food supply ..... guns and ammo? We got that covered too.

Any interesting personal experience from LA rooftops in 1992? Were you armed? How did the Korean community organize their defenses? What sort of guns they used?
From various photos and videos about the LA riots, I have not seen any Korean carrying semi-auto rifle at the time. Also, their 'combat load' seemed to be very light. If I were in their position, I would be carrying a semi-auto rifle with double combat load worth of ammo (at least 400 rounds) + a sidearm with several magazines as well.

I wish I had exciting story to share. In short I was 14, fresh off the boat, otw back from an ESL class at a lutheran church. We were running toward downtown when the mob started to throw stuffs at the buses (buses won't stop for us obviously).. then were pointed away from downtown toward the korean town. Keep in mind, cell phone were uncommon and finding ride was almost impossible. We hang out at the in door flea market until they kicked everyone out around 7pm. That's when I saw bunch of private security guys w/ hand guns. I heard few gunshots, and took off north toward i-10 until we see some LE presence. From there, we hang out til about midnight and finally caught a ride home. I spent the next two days watching the riots on TV... like I said, nothing exciting :) I was too young to notice any kind of setup or kind of firearms they carried.
I was in J town during the May riot too.. gosh I wish I had my piece! :bash:

I have a miniature of an Indonesian MiG-17, its looks a little bit worn out, but i'll try to post a picture of it.

building and producing APC from truck chassis is much more cheaper than monocoque APC. Notice the radiator grill on the front. It's obviously the engine is in lower position than engine in Anoa (which has monocoque body) which in the same level as the passenger compartment.
As this one only for police purpose, I think the armour was not as thick as Anoa, hence it much be lot lighter. So, it's okay with the small truck tires.
They still can handle up to 15 tones

I doubt it. Military transport is much more complicated than civie aircraft. Airbus and its A400M program, or Shaanxi and its Y-9 program are two examples of delayed/over-budgeted and yet still non-production development of heavy military transports by undoubtly experience companies.
IPTN also lost many experienced engineers during the past 10 years. It's sad.
Hopefully the incoming administration will encourage National Defense Companies growth by ordering more locally made weaponaries. p-)

Technically we are able to build airplanes like N2130 or at least the N250, but we dont have the money.
As the Broncos said, its really expensive to build and develop aircrafts in the class of Il-76, A400M, MD17 and An-70. Maybe we only need some 10-20 of it, so absolutely not cost-effective, its cheaper to buy some second hand C130Hs, also because we already have some 20 of it.
We can only expect/hope IPTN will develop a updated version 0f the CN235 in the next coming 10 years.
Navy denies losing border territory to Singapore
The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Fri, 05/08/2009 7:06 PM | National
A senior naval officer has denied allegations that with the recent signing of a border agreement with Singapore, Indonesia had lost territory.
The agreement covered the western segment of Indonesia's maritime border with Singapore.
"Perhaps, on certain parts of the border, we did lose territory but in other parts, we gained territory, so there was no loss," said Commodore Edhi Nuswantoro, assistant for operations to the Indonesian navy's chief of staff in Batam Friday as quoted by Antara state news agency.
He further stressed that the lines taken from some segments of the boundary were changed from horizontal to lopsided toward the eastern part.
"Before it was a straight line, now it is lopsided. In some parts , our territory shrank but elsewhere our territory widened," he said while showing a map of Indonesia-Singapore sea boundaries.
Indonesia succeeded in convincing Singapore to determine waters territory by measuring diameter of outer island but not from reclaimed shore in line with Convention on Sea Law of 1982.
By doing so, shore reclamation conducted by Singapore will not affect the border of the two countries.
Touching on some segments of the territory which could not yet result in an agreement, especially east segment of sea boundary which is located between Bintan island of Indonesia and Changi airport of Singapore, he said overlapping recognition is still applicable.
Under overlapping recognition, he said the government of Indonesia could take action against Singapore fishermen entering that territory and vise versa.
"It is really overlapping, but it is the case..." he said.
Singapore delayed the sea territory agreement for east segment with Indonesia, as that neighboring country has to settle their dispute on Batu Puteh with Malaysia.

I will try.. summary only....
An Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) radar unit in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara Province detected a number of foreign fighter aircraft flying in an area south of Rote Island. However, when TNI AU fighter aircraft were scrambled to investigate, the foreign aircraft disappeared from radar range according to the Commander of El Tari Air Base in Kupang, Lieutenant Colonel Joko Sugeng Srianto on 18 May 2009.
There were indications that the foreign aircraft, which were first detected on 11 May 2009, had originated from Indonesia's southern neighbour. The incident was reported to Indonesian Armed Forces Headquarters. Up until now, four F-5E Tiger II fighters had been conducting routine air patrols along the Indonesia-Australia border.
The airspace over the Indonesia-Australia border has always been problematic due to violations by aircraft and foreign fishing vessels. Not long ago, TNI AU commenced air operations from 5 to 15 May to monitor Indonesia's outer lying islands and its archipelagic sea lanes. Four F-5E Tiger II fighters and 150 TNI AU personnel including Air Force Special Troops (Paskhas), led by Lieutenant Colonel Ronny Moningka, participated in the operation.

Our budget is too smal to buy big quantities of Sukhois at once, later this year or maybe next year we will receive 3 extra Su-27SKM. So totally we will have just enough Sukhois for one squadron....
OPM (Organisasi Papua Merdeka) is a small seperatist movement in our most eastern province. In the fifties and sixties the Dutch government try to brainwash the Papuas to not want to become part of Indonesia. Thats one of the biggest reasons some Papuas are anti-Indonesia.

Enough this ****in accident! our soldier life aren't expendable, their life is the first priority in the modern defense strategy, the planning to buy new transport aircraft should be speed up and the small budget should be revised, there is no reason to sacrifice our soldier life due to limited budget. Air force to intensify checks on Hercules planes
ANTARA photo/Iwan AdisyahputraJakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) will immediately check its C-130 Hercules planes including those that have just undergone a retrofit following an incident in Wamena on Monday, its spokesman, Air Commodore Bambang Soelistyo said.
He said the intensive examination would be carried out to assure their condition.
He said a C-130 Hercules from Squadron 32 of the Abdurahman Saleh airbase in Malang, East Java, skidded upon landing in Papua after its back wheels came off.
He said the plane had just undergone a retrofit in Singapore and "therefore the check would be done on all Hercules planes including those that had undergone a retrofit in Singapore."
He said the airforce planned to improve the capability of nine of its Hercules planes in Singapore. He said the retrofit on four of them had already been completed, including airframe improvement and avionic and engine modification.
Retrofit has also been carried out by the Abdurrahman Saleh airbase` Maintenance Depot 30 to improve engine capability from T56-7 to T56-15 or from type B to type H.
Capability improvement is also being done in Maintenance Depot 10 of the Husein Sastranegara airbase in Bandung, West Java, that includes aircraft body and avionic modification.
Capability improvement of two Hercules at Depot 10 and 30 ws fully done by airforce technicians who had earlier been trained in Singapore.
"We have also carried out improvement and also routine checks to assure that our aircraft is airworthy," he said.

Korban Tewas 98 orang, 10 Kritis
By Republika Newsroom
Rabu, 20 Mei 2009 pukul 16:54:00
Military plane crashes in E. Java, at least 90 dead
Agencies , Jakarta | Wed, 05/20/2009 1:43 PM | Headlines
An Indonesian military plane carrying more than 100 people crashed into several homes and burst into flames Wednesday, killing at least 90 people, officials said.
Dozens were injured and more were feared dead, with local television flashing footage of fire engulfing the mangled wreckage. Black smoke billowed in the air, as soldiers carried badly burnt bodies on stretchers to waiting ambulances, Associated Press reported.
Air force spokesman Bambang Sulistyo was quoted by Antara as saying at least 90 people were killed when the C-130 Hercules crashed near a base in East Java province early Wednesday. There were 112 passengers and crew on board.
A total of 105 victims had been evacuated, 90 of them were dead, 10 sustained serious injuries and five others suffered minor injuries, Bambang Sutistyo said.
Military spokesman Sagom Tamboen said the aircraft was transporting troops and their families, including at least 10 children, when it tumbled from the sky near an air force base in Madiun, East Java province.
It smashed into a row of houses in Geplak village, killing three on the ground, before skidding into a rice field.
The tail of the plane and several large parts of its charred body were scattered in the paddy and nearby bushes.
It was not clear what caused the crash, the latest in a string to hit the air force.
But several witnesses described hearing a large explosion while it was still in the air and then seeing it split apart.
"One of the wings fell off," Agus Yulianto, a villager, was quoted as saying on the Web site of Kompas newspaper. "Then the plane nose-dived into the houses."
The accident occurred 325 miles (520 kilometers) east of the capital, Jakarta.
The country's air force has long complained of being underfunded and handicapped by a recently lifted U.S. ban on weapons sales. It has suffered a series of accidents, including a Fokker 27 plane that crashed into an airport hangar last month, killing all 24 onboard.

RIP to the fallen. My heart break to hear Herky crash this morning.
So, Mr Karbol....this Herky actually based on civilian version (L-100 series) which originally has no ramp door.
When and where did TNI AU modified the A-1325 to military trasnport?
Did they replace the engine? because civilian version might have lower power rate engine
I guess original L-100 series has presurized cabin. Or, all Herky series has presurized cabin?

Questions have to be asked not just of TNI AU's accident record but of Indonesia's overall flight safety record. Questions also need to be asked of the people in positions of power who have not made any changes to put a stop to these tragedies. There are too many air accidents in Indonesia... Drastic changes need to be made to the way planes are maintained and serviced right through to the way that pilots fly their aircraft or make decisions which affect the passengers' safety. This is beyond a joke because people's lives are at stake.... The Government needs to correct problems quickly before our air force has no planes left to fly. There is no use buying brand new aircraft if they are not maintained or flown properly.
I hope this accident will be the last, already too many suffer because of these accidents...innalillahi wa inna illaihi raji'un
It seems Den-88 will be activated and assigned to counter the OPMs occupying the airstrip,at least that's what I read on the news ticker...

My sister also has a SLR camera and carry backpack when on photo trip, but she isn't a journo(journalist).
But yeah, they are most probably journos. It just a bit strange that journos are allowed freely inside the crash scene doing their jobs especially when the investigation is still open. You might think that only certain individuals are allowed inside the crash scene to minimize contamination.

TLDM is poking and attempting to soften TNI AL responses. The funny thing is foreign fishing and smuggling ships usually won't have any issue going in and out RI territorial water. Few years back, a whole US CV battlegroup was passing through RI water (at least by EEZ standard) and was not detected aside from the F/A 18 flying caps.
I wonder why TNI AL don't play the same game w/ Malay's territory. Think of is friendly 'training' exercise. :D

RI not to increase naval fleet in Ambalat
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will not increase the strength of its naval fleet in Ambalat waters following border violations by Malaysian naval vessels, Indonesian Navy Chief Admiral Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno said here on Tuesday.
The Indonesian Navy chief said the six warships that had been deployed to guard the border in the area so far were already enough.
"We are also assisted by KPLP (sea and coastal guards unit) personnel, police and officers of the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry in guarding the Ambalat area. So, we do not need additional naval strength there," the Navy chief said.
He said border violations could occur because there were no clear markers of the Indonesia-Malaysia border in Ambalat waters ..............................................contin

Copy existing design is much more cheaper than developing own one. Pindad doesn't have big budget for R&D as RI government never grant them any R&D project. All R&D in Pindad conducted by Pindad's own money, a small portion of their limited annual earning.
I pretty much agree on cooperation between Pindad & South Korea (SK). I wonder, is it with Hyundai Rotem or other SK firm?
From SK, we can 'steal' American technology with much lower price.
Just precaution, do not use any American stuff on Pindad's AAV
We hope the next project with SK would be a light battle tank

It was on Metro TV or TV One, but on this reportase they said in 1969 or 1970 RI and Malaysia were agreed that Ambalat belongs to RI, but Sipadan and Ligitan problem was not solved.

I have found this, (posted 15 Desember 2007)
South Korea’s rolling stock maker Rotem will transfer technology to Indonesia to help the Southeast Asian nation develop wheeled armored fighting vehicles, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced Dec. 13.
Representatives from Rotem, a unit of Hyundai Motor, and Indonesia’s PT.PINDAD signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the joint development and production of six-wheel-drive armored vehicles during a ceremony at DAPA’s headquarters in central Seoul.
“We believe this MoU will pave the way for the future export of South Korea’s armored vehicle technology to foreign countries, particularly Asian and Middle Eastern nations,” said Cmdr. Park Sung-soo, a public affairs officer for DAPA.

Everything which already been published on the internet by our government, forums, Indonesian or foreign press, or other foreign sources, can be post again here, in my opinion.
But yes, if we get some pictures or information first hand which maybe be confidentional or secret (whats the difference?) we should be carefull with it.

This proposal is pointless for the most part considering most of TNI armaments are imported. While it may be effective locally, most international transactions are announced/published publicly anyway.
The Indonesian public needs to understand better how minimal TNI armaments are and how little field soldiers get (wage/accommodation wise). TNI in turn should be more transparent and improves its public image. This proposed bill will encourage the opposite.
I hope this will not be enacted to the legislation.

INTERVIEW - Indonesia aims to buy planes, submarines

By Harry Suhartono
SINGAPORE (*******) - Indonesia is in talks with the United States to buy Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules transport planes and might be in a position to buy fighter jets and submarines in 2-3 years, its defence minister said.
Juwono Sudarsono told ******* on Saturday after talks with U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates that no final agreement had yet been reached on the transport planes, a possible first step in upgrading its military.
"With Gates we discussed the possibility of Hercules ... but because the market of that particular plane is quite tight we have to wait our turn," Sudarsono said in an interview.
"He promised for a discounted price but we don't know how much the discount will be. Because it is in their interest for Indonesia to remain stable," he said.
The country aims to raise its defence spending to 1.2 percent of gross domestic product within five years, from 0.68 percent or 33.6 trillion rupiah ($3.3 billion) now, Sudarsono said.
"It all depends on how quick the economy will recover," he said.
He said the defense spending of the world's fourth-most populous nation, home to 226 million people, was far below neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Australia and Malaysia.
China is building up its military and Australia said this month it plans a $72 billion defense upgrade over the next 20 years, including new submarines, leading to fears among some experts of an arms race in Asia as countries look to maintain control over trade routes and borders. continue....

Maintenance Budget to increase also!

Indonesian defense ministry seeks increasing system maintenance fund in 2010
www.chinaview.cn 2009-05-25 17:22:16 Print
JAKARTA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian Defense Ministry would increase fund for its 2010 budget for maintaining its defense system main equipment to 1 trillion rupiah (about 97.9 million U.S dollars) from 600 billion rupiah (about 58.7 million dollars) this year, the private news portal detikcom quoted a minister on Monday.
"Currently, the budget is around 600 billion rupiah for military. We'll try to increase it to 700 billion rupiah (68.5 million dollars) this year, similar as 2008. And in 2010, we hope to further increase it to 1 trillion rupiah," said Defense Minister Juwono Sudharsono.
He said that the amount was a "minimum essential funding for minimum essential forces."
"Therefore, we can increase soldiers' safety level in using high risk defense system main equipment," he said.
He also said that the maintenance allocation could not be taken from the state budget, but from efficiency from other pots in the ministry's budget.
He added that he appreciated the parliament's proposal of purchasing new defense system main equipment. However, he said, it could be delayed given the insufficient state budget.
Critics said that the military plane crash last week was due to insufficient fund to maintain its equipment.

that's a ridiculous UU, since when does official arms deal can be discreet, most nations even publicly boasts their arms deal, much for political reasons as well, just like the Ozzies who recently ordered the new batch of F-18Es Super Hornets
I really think, TNI should just let the people know about all the arms transaction they're planning to do.. and IMHO, it will give more peace of mind for the Indonesian people knowing that their soldiers are being equipped with new equipments & armaments, unlike the last incident with the Herc, Rest in Peace for the fallen comrades...

This needs to be resolved quickly by the two governments. The problem is that both countries are following different maps relating to their respective borders. The media is not making the situation any easier by making a bigger deal out of the issue than it is.
General Santoso has commented that both navies are following agreed standard operating procedures regarding violations so there will not be a war... but Deplu has to bring Malaysia back to the negotiating table to finalise this issue because it has the potential to lead to tragedy.

If TNI plays this out correctly, any kind of border intrusion or *God forbid incident will benefit TNI in the long term. RI GDP is larger than any two SE Asian countries combined, yet its defense budget is half of Singapore.

Air force to sign loan agreement on Sukhoi jet fighters
The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Sun, 08/24/2008 4:32 PM | National
Indonesia will sign a loan agreement with Russia on the purchase of six Sukhoi fighter planes in September, 2008.
"According to the result of a meeting between the Defence Ministry, the Finance Ministry, the National Defense Force and the Air Force on Saturday, the loan agreement will be signed in September," Air Force chief Air Marshal Soebandrio said Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that the six Sukhoi aircraft, which would arrive in stages in 2008 and 2009, were urgently needed to strengthen the Indonesian Air Force.
The Russian Sukhoi company announced last year the sale of six fighting aircraft to Indonesia worth US$300 million.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the procurement of the six Sukhoi planes was signed during the Moscow aerospace exhibition in August 2007. In the MoU however it was mentioned that the selling value of the six aircraft was $355 million.
Three units of SU-30MK2 type complete with the armament are scheduled to arrive in Indonesia in 2008 and the SU-27SKM type units in 2009.
The six Sukhoi fighters will an addition to the four aircrafts of the Squadron 11 at the Hasanuddin airbase in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
The purchase of the six Sukhoi aircraft was not included in the credit scheme given by the Russian government worth $1 billion in weapon systems for Indonesia signed in 2007 for the next four years. (dre)
I think the 335jt is from some export credits. But i dont understand what that means.
I only know the 1 milyar is for two Project 636 subs and 17 BMP-3F.

If Government want to have strong diplomacy power, this time they should choose career diplomat to fill the ambassador position rather than put retired police commander.

GDP data is there for comparison. Defense budget is typically based on percentage of GDP. RI's GDP is almost twice of Thailand, and double of Malaysia... our defense budget is less than 1% of GDP while others are at 4% or more.

1 Billion export credit is the total loan from Russia to purchase the Sukhoi, 2 subs, Mi helicopters, and BMPs at 5.6% interest.
The six will bring the total number of Indonesia's Sukhoi fleet to 10 by 2010, strengthening the airforce squadrons across the country, Mahandono added.
Russia has provided Indonesia with a US$1 billion-credit scheme to finance this and other military purchases from the European military giant, including 22 helicopters, 20 amphibious tanks and two submarines.
"The first two jets out of the six bought by Indonesia have been delivered to the customer," the Interfax news agency quoted a Sukhoi spokesman as saying in Moscow.

You are missing the point. Knowing how SBY handled Aceh, he probably will take advantage of the situation. As RI will look weak, there will be overwhelming support for stronger navy, air force, etc.
