Karbol - do you have pictures showing more details of this plane? Are there any ESM/RWR on the back? Just curious about the sensor suite. Most reports about the plane list a lot of electronics but the only things visible are the radar dome, frontal ESM suite and the FLIR turret (maybe a Chlio?).

When I walked around an Atlantique (back in IAS 86 - Kemayoran), some of the details on the plane were visible only from close proximity - eg.: it has a quad launch-tube semi-recessed on the side for sonobuoys.

the ESM is on the top of the cockpit... i'm not sure on the back. tomorrow i'll took more detail pics for you...

I agreed with Karbol Indonesia need more LHD and Helicopter for Disaster Relief:) Than for Battle.

So we can use our Navys and others equipment for Disaster Relief Preventif action and humanitarian activity.

maybe PAL Can build 500-1000 AFV for Indonesian Marines.. I Think its enough for now and if the LV7 from ROK Marines really gived to Indonesia Then PAL can Learn and studied the Vessel and make new design combining the BTR 50 and LV7 :D sounds great idea !!! heheheheh woot

CVN as nuclear powered aircraft carrier ? I hope you are kidding. CVN is a very complex system, very-very expensive to build & maintain. Only four nations in the world have CVN; three have only one-two, the other has several. Indonesia indeed need nuclear power, not for military, but for power generator. If you live in the country you will absolutely agree with me.

Thanks for the CN-235MPA picture - good stuff. I noticed the 3 antennas on the back from an Asian Aerospace picture. I was hoping that one of them would be a retractable MAD boom ..... Looks like they're part of Elettronica's ESM suite, maybe ALR733/741 series .. ?

This Amadani looks a lot like Honda Ridgeline.
http://automobiles.honda.com/ridgeline/exterior-photos.aspx

They better change the engine source - GM is not doing really good these days - about to run out of cash. Plus - the Ridgeline has a v6 with 260+ horsie .... The listed diesel V8 is good only for 150 ... ?

UAV from MoD...

http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp44/barong1978/UAV1.jpg

Nowadays, UAV technology has become a "supermarket technology". You buy parts, you assemble them & they can fly. In Indonesia, you find lots of them: from BPPT, R&D MoD, Universities & private companies. Though I'm not so sure whether TNI or Polri have been utilizing them or not.

However, the key capability of an UAV is actually rely on its eyes & brain. To build a drone is easy, no problem, university students can do that. But to have a long distance tele-camera, durable batteries, withstand the extreme temperature, jamming-proof comm, etc. are the real challenges, which is still limited to a few parties only.

Panser APC Anoa 6x6

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1646/scan0009xu7.jpg

Finally they come up with a name. Anoa is an endangered wild animal & can be found only in Sulawesi island. Anoa comes from the deer family. For a 6x6 APC, names like Rhino or T-rex or Dyno or Gator or Croc sound more representative & much better than Anoa.:)

I'm surprised the thickness of the steel plate & glass plate is written on the official brochure. Normally it is kept classified.

They spent money for the models & they displayed them in a formal industrial exhibition event. They want to confirm & to show that they are able to build them. Now, are they going to build one ? It depends whether they get a customer or not. The only possible customer I see is TNI-AL. The next question: do TNI-AL need a helicopter carrier ship or not ?

I see they use Renault engine for this APC, and I heard the production is sometime postponed due to late delivery of it's engine. I think Renault (France) didn't sincere to let their engine put in the Pindad APC, so it's better to find another comparable engine like Deutz, cummin, etc or better developed it locally instead of depend on Renault.

Oh, never mind, when it comes to stupid animal names for vehicles, we Germans are way ahead of you. Anoa is a nice name and a beautiful and big animal. And I guess they can be quite dangerous with their big horns.

We have vehicles with idiotic sounding names like Mungo, Enok, Frettchen (meaning Ferret) or Yak. Oh, and the initial name for our new IFV Puma was Igel (hedgehog) :cantbeli:

So you see, Anoa is not that that bad :D

Panther was the initial suggestion, then came Igel, then they settled on Puma. Obviously they recognized that an animal that you most times see as roadkill is not a proper eponym for an hightech IFV....

BTW: Panther has already been the name of a missile tank destroyer that never went beyond prototype status in the 70's or 80's. Marder has also been used by the Nazis for a series of WWII-era German tank destroyers. And finally there is a Tiger again in the current German army, even though it's not a tank anymore. So I don't think they take the whole political taboo stuff so serious.

I'm still busy with my midterms bro; im sure ill have some spare time somtimes by the end of the week hopefully. I shall not bother posting anymore pics of the "Anoa" since karbol is the man. I'll probably post pictures of F-16's and Pindad handguns.

No biggie master chief; the F-5 flyovers yells out that even though the Air Force was under an embargo, we still can keep some of them flying. And that makes me proud.

Embargo? What embargo?
I thought It had been lifted last year

What is the purpose of displaying 40-years old flying machines at a supposed-to-be-hi-tech defence exhibition ? :-(

Also, I thought all TNI-AU F-5E are "retired" already, reserved only when needed in the future ?

Me thinks in this time of krismon, its cheaper to use the F-5s from IWY and the F-16s (on their way back from MALINDO) than to get the Sukhois over from Hasanuddin... fuel costs... mahal dong! We got defence budget cuts to deal with now! :-(

Any news about RPP-M from Pindad?

Oya Mastercif, our F-5E/Fs are 'just' 28 years old, and ofcourse upgraded in 1995-2001.

I apolagize that i wasnt more clear; i meant that the Air Force are still able to fly some of its aircrafts before the embargo was lifted and that makes me proud. And now the F-5's will be playing a major role safeguarding the Indonesian region. They can operate at much lower cost, and when necessary F-16's or Sukhois can be called in for support.

Oya Mastercif, our F-5E/Fs are 'just' 28 years old, and ofcourse upgraded in 1995-2001.

F-5 family is based on late 1950s technology. Yes, TNI-AU F-5E/F were delivered in 1980, but they were actually built some years before the delivery. The MACAN project in 1995 was intended to upgrade mainly the avionics, not the engine nor the airframe.

Nevertheless, back to my original question, what is the purpose displaying old aircrafts during a hi-tech defense exhibition ?

I'm not against F-5E/F. It's still reliable fighter especially for patrolling mission, much more economic than Falcons & Flankers.

with limited resources we have, i think it's a wise decision not to have a first line of aircraft in the aerobatic team because the risk to loose one in unnecessary accident is quite high.

maybe if they want to form an aerobatic team, they can use some retired or reserved airplane for the purpose.

RI to send war ship to Lebanon

The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Tue, 12/02/2008 4:53 PM | National
Indonesia will send a war ship to Southern Lebanon to help build stability in the region, a top Navy official said on Tuesday.

Fulfilling a request from the UN, the Indonesian Navy will send KRI Diponegoro to Lebanon, RI Navy deputy chief of staff Rear Admiral Moekhlas Sidiq told Antara news agency on Tuesday.

"This is an honor on the international stage. In terms of land deployments (Army) the Indonesian military has been helping (the UN) for decades. March 2009 will be the first time we have been entrusted to send a war ship. This is why we are sending the newest one we own," Sidiq said.

The UN is scheduled to inspect the ship prior to its departure, Sidiq said.

"What is for certain is that this is a peacekeeping mission -- not a war. We are working very hard to get prepared," he said.
Five countries have been asked to serve in the tumultuous region for a six-month operation.

Previously, the Indonesian military has deployed 1,136 personnel to Lebanon under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), to help restore peace and security in the region.

I hate to say it but I don't think in any chance it is possible to fire a minigun with that skinny mount, average recoil from a 7.62 minigun is around 60 Kg, shouldn't be that different for the 5.56, so when you fired up that thing in that mount.... expect the worse.

Anyway I also don't see the use of a 5.56 minigun, it will suck up a 200 round magazines in seconds and its not as powerful as a 7.62 of the M132. Talk about logistical nightmare.

CIS 40-AGL TO BE BUILT IN INDONESIA
Section

Appearing in
JANE'S DEFENCE WEEKLY
Publication date
May 28, 1994

Indonesia's PT Pindad has entered into an agreement with Chartered Firearms Industries of Singapore (CIS) to license-produce the CIS40-AGL 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. The company will make some slight modifications to suit Indonesian mountings. The 40-AGL is an air-cooled, direct blowback operated weapon which fires US and CIS 40 mm high velocity rounds to an effective range of1500 m. Modular in construction, it comprises four main assemblies:bolt and backplate; trigger and sight; feed cover; and receiver. Itcan be mounted on a tripod, pedestal or turret/cupola.The 40-AGL is in production for the Singapore armed forces for mounting on M113 APCs. To meet a local requirement CIS has developed a special training round, the TP S416A, which more closely follows the trajectory of HE and HEDP operational rounds than theUS-developed TP M385. All 40 mm grenade rounds produced in Singapore now have a one-piece base to the cartridge case to eliminate potential feed problems inherent in other similar case designs.

Previously, the Indonesian military has deployed 1,136 personnel to Lebanon under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), to help restore peace and security in the region.

... go guys... make us proud:)

Why Lebanon ? Why not the pirate-heaven Somalian water ?
Lebanon water is potentially more dangerous. All troublesome countries in the area (you name it, including Hezbollah) have active anti-ship missiles. For PR, Somalian water is more strategically interesting & less risky. It's more useful to the free world trade lines, including Indonesia themselves. Sooner or later, there will be Indonesian sailors get captured as hostages by the Somalian pirates.

Thanks. Never seen this interesting concept before. Now you can use it for both anti-personnel & anti-material.

Pindad's SMB-QCB (Closed Quarter Combat ?) is indeed a licensed version of CIS 50MG.
The Wikipedia says Kostrad's Tontaipur is the 2nd operator of this MG. Anybody can verify that ?

The QCB parts is pretty common feature in modern M2HB, is it not?

The dual feed HMG is really interesting. I hope it is in production stage and not just in development. I also wish Pindad is developing some sort of anti tank or armor weapon for the troops.

SUKHOI TNI AU DIJADWALKAN TIBA JANUARI 2009

(http://www.dephan.go.id/modules.php?name=News&file=categories&op=newindex&catid=1)Jakarta - Menteri Pertahanan Juwono Sudarsono mengungkapkan, pesawat Sukhoi TNI Angkatan Udara buatan Rusia diperkirakan tiba mulai Januari 2009 secara bertahap hingga genap enam pesawat.

Translated so that some people wouldn't complain about these being an english forum.

Defense Minister said the sukhois for the air forces is expected to arrive starting on January 2009.

"We just submitted the letter of credit to the Bank Indonesia and we are expecting the first plane will arrive next month, 2 more plane three months later and so on until we got all the six plane addition," said the Defense Minister in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The Russian announced on 08-21-2008 that Indonesia is buying 6 sukhoi with total amount of US $300 million.

The 6 planes consists of 3 SU-30MK2 and 3 SU-27 SKM and will compliment the existing 4 Sukhois.

The MOU for the 6 new planes was signed on the Moskwa Airshow? on 08-21-2007.

However, there are differences of the total cost of the plan between the MOU ($300 Million) and the announcement ($300 Million).

At first 3 SU-30Mk2 with all the weaponary planned to arrive on 2008 and the remaining on 2009.

However, on thing or another, the they have to postponed it.

Kapal Indonesia Dibajak Perompak Somalia

Rabu, 17 Desember 2008 | 07:35 WIB

Somali pirates detain 11 Indonesians

The Jakarta Post | Wed, 12/17/2008 8:31 PM | National
Eleven Indonesians were among those onboard a Malaysian tugboat that has been in the possession of Somali pirates since Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday.

"We have no information on whether the pirates want a ransom or not. Usually they demand a ransom in the form of a ship," spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah said as quoted by Antara news wire.

Faizasyah said Malaysian authorities had contacted the pirates and were told that all the ship's crew were taken care off.

"We will continue to work with all related parties in efforts to rescue our fellow countrymen," Teuku said.

Earlier, a Yemeni maritime source reported that the pirates had hijacked the Malaysian tugboat on Tuesday night, a few hours after it left Yemen heading to Malaysia.

The boat, owned by Mas Indra Shipping Malaysian Sendirian Bhd., was carrying an unspecified number of crew members. However, reports suggest the crew were mostly Malaysian. (and)

Such an attack is really unpredictable without a good intelligencenetwork.
But the Indian police wasnt prepared at all, i also didnt expected such powerfull country with nuclear weapons acted so amaturistic and slowly.
The normal police was only armed with wooden sticks, the reinforcements with obsolete rifles, bulletproof vests and equipment.
Hopefully they learned from this, improve their weaponry and equipment, and will have trainings with GSG9 and special forces/CT units from neighbourcountries.

Not politcal excuse, believe me, I am as far from being a politican as anyone can be. Just tactical reality, intel gathering, pre deployment, and the op itself, for an event such as that is almost unprecedented. People did get killed and most certainly more would have been dead without indian police/ military intervention.

I agree.

Terrorists needs only to get it right just once and the result is terrible. Plus terrorists have the advantages of initiatives. Law enforcers (Police, military etc) do not have that luxury and it is extremely difficult for them to be right at all times.

How much can you really discern from the footages? I think as a detterence tactic the joint police/ military exercises this past week has showed alot of how our CT teams have matured both in capabilities and also supporting equipment, if I was a terrorist group, I would think twice before hitting any targets in Indonesia. These exercises was also the governments answer to the shifting pardigm of terrorist attacks switching from IED (which thanks to Den 88, many of them has been thwarted) to direct action/ assault operations in which are alot harder to defend against.

The point is, we should have a good intelligence capability to prevent these kind of terrorism acts.. Yes, we can see after the drill, If there is a terrorist group do this kind of action, 100% they will die or being captured.. but how if we face a terrorist group which have no-fear to die?? They will blow the target before any CT attack them..

It's better to prevent rather to counter the terrorism act...

this is most interesting article for me... check it out:

INDONESIA PRODUCES SUKHOI BOMB
19 Jan 2006
The Indonesian Defense Industry is ready to produce bombs for the Sukhoi aircraft and other standard aircrafts for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The 100 kilogram caliber bomb named P100 has been produced by the Research and Develpment Division of the TNI Air force HQ.
“It is of good quality, but we can only produce them in small quantities at the moment since our orders are limited,“ informed the R&D Defense Department Head, Lilik Hendrajaya to Tempo in Jakarta recently.

Indonesia now owns four Sukhoi aircrafts. But since it was purchased in 2003, the Russian made aircrafts have never been armed with weapons. The main reason for this was limited budget.
The TNI Air Force Chief of Staff Air Marshall Djoko Suyanto has confirmed that the Air Force will purchase weapons system from Russia for the Sukhoi planes as soon as possible. “But if can locally produce good quality weapons, then we won’t have to purchase them from abroad.” he promised.
The Sukhoi bomb, made in Indonesia was produced in 2005, a joint work with the TNI Air Force and CV Sari Bahari from Malang, East Java. According to the R&D Division Head of the TNI Air Force, First Air Marshall J. Subagyo, the pilot test had already been implemented early this month.
Subagyo guarantees that the bomb is of good quality, but admitted that they cannot produce the bombs in large numbers since this would also need a bigger budget. “The main point is the good will to use local products. ” he said with much hope.
Lilik is in agreement with Subagyo. The P100 bomb is not manufactured with a missile but Lilik is sure that such difficulties can be overcome by our TNI Air Force since we also have the knowledge to produce bombs using missiles.
The bomb is 1.130 millimeters long, weighing 100-125 kilograms, and has a diameter of 273 millimeters. The bomb is made from the nodular metal for its body, VCN 15 steel is used for the lock to be attached to the aircraft, and the ST-37 for its tail, which is 410 millimeters long.
Still about weapons for the TNI, yesterday the Department of Defense was given an offer that was conveyed by the Dutch Amabassador, H.E. Dr. Nikolaos Van Dam to the Minister of Defense Juwono Sudarsono, that there is a possibility that PT. PAL will produce the product.

Thanks Karbol! Good news! Altough every 3rd world country can make free fall bombs... But now we aren't dependend from foreign sources for only free fall bombs for our Sukhois...

"The P100 bomb is not manufactured with a missile but Lilik is sure that such difficulties can be overcome by our TNI Air Force since we also have the knowledge to produce bombs using missiles."

Yeah...weapon systems like "rudal cannon". Hopefully Lilik isn't involved with this program, because he really sounds stoned..

Hope fully in the future we can make ASMs and guided bombs like Kh29.

SUKHOI TNI AU UJI COBA BOM P-100
(http://www.dephan.go.id/modules.php?name=News&file=categories&op=newindex&catid=1)Jakarta - Dua pesawat jet tempur Sukhoi TNI Angkatan Udara (AU) berhasil melakukan seluruh uji coba bom latih P-100 di Kabupaten, Takalar, Sulawesi Selatan, Selasa.
