This is a locally upgraded BTR-40, right? It is the first time that I have seen this configuration. Until now I was aware of this version:

Since the US Arms embargo in 1992, many units switched over to eastern bloc weapons while at the same time, they are still using NATO/US oriented small arms. As you can imagine, it created a nightmare for our supply corps. But I have heard talks about US State Secretary Rice wanting to lift the arms embargo and resuming the IMET program which is a good thing because we have so many C130's and F16's grounded due to lack of spare parts. Also, the newly created DEN SUS 88 AT (Special Detachment 88 Anti Terror) of the Indonesian National Police is really being spoiled by the US Govt. They recieve training from the FBI and the BDS. I had the pleasure of conducting cross training with DEN SUS 88 and I must say that their equipment is up to par compared to their counterparts in the US Special Operations Community, while us Marines still have to deal with rusty BTR's and M16 A1's. But as they say its not the gun but the it is the mand behind the gun right? :)

this one is Singaporean Ultimax-100, this one I kinda amazed because I really dont know we had this kind of LMG in Indonesia. yes we had lots of FN Minimi, yes also M60 and GPMG, but this? cool... quite nice though..

Guys, does PINDAD made local LMG?

My friend using Madsen Satter LMG. yeah, very very very OLD gun, they said it was taken from Timorese militia back in late 60's (or early 70's) and they still using it in service until the latest Aceh's movement military operation few years ago.

Yes they do, its called the spm2-v2, 7.62x51. Its basically a lighter version of the GPMG. Although honestly I have not seen it fielded with any units.

Lack of rails, different sights, different magazines and forward grip etc etc etc....

No, it's a Czech Sa Vz.58V.

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/8382/savz58v2ct.jpg

It resembles the AK externally and they share the same caliber (7.62x39 mm), but internally the Vz.58 is entirely different and doesn't even use AK-type magazines.

The Denjaka insignia is the insignia of Detasemen Jala Mengkara, an elite anti terrorist unit of the Korps Marinir.

The pic you see with the all the Police Officers wearing grey fatigues contains the insignia of DEN SUS 88 (88th Special Detachment). A newly created CT unit of the Indonesian Police. These guys have a vast array of responsibilities including hotage rescue, VIP Protection, investigation and other CT functions.

How do Indonesians view the Dutch police actions (Agressi 1&2?), not trying to start a flamewar but I'm just interested ... I know our wargraves are well kept but I don't know how you guys look at them (illegal, criminal, neccesary?)

nata4190

Colonization was a fact of life during that era. It was common, normal and ven expected. After WWII, decolonization started to come by in full swing. The decolonization process was smooth in some place but a little bit rough around the edges at most places, including Indonesia. The 1st&2nd agression was only one of the way the Dutch tried to hold on to its colonies. The agression was illegal and was declared illegal by the UN Trusteeship council. However i truly do think that the 1st and 2nd agression helped solidify and unite freedom struggle efforts in Indonesia. The 1st and 2nb agression created a united front of Indonesian fighters that will eventually win us a "true" independance.

sp2c

well illegal ... the problem was the Bersiap period (a slaughter) and the Dutchies still in Japanese labourcamps (now run by Indonesians) and the general lawlessness in the territories.

I think we were wrong in trying to reclaim the territories but they did need a firm hand to stop the killings, maybe we should've worked with Sukarno but we didn't like him for various reasons

again not trying to start a flamewar, I was just wondering we're all friends again these days :)
keep up the good pictures :)

Are you sure this guys are Indonesians? They are armed with micro Galils(politically incorect because Indonesia is muslim state wright?) and AKSU - 74 and AKS - 74, I asume in NATO(5,56 mm) caliber. I would judge that they belong to vietnamese and not indonesian SF. Any text in english involving TONTAIPUR?p-)

some info (source i forget where):

"The combat and reconnaissance platoon (Tontaipur) is Kostrads newest
elite unit, formed on August 4, 2001. After a five-month intensive
trainings, 97 personnels selected from the 9th and the 13th Infantry
Brigades became the first troops for this elite unit.

Just as the name implies, Tontapiur will be sent to do surveillance
and reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines and destroy enemys
strategic installations. Some of the equipments that these troops
carry are special assault rifles and night vision goggle (NVG).
Each Tontaipur personnel has the abilities to conduct operations on
land, sea, and in the air.

The first test for Tontaipur was the operation to demolish the
Free Aceh Movements (GAM)."

Story of Airplane terorist

On 28th March 1981, Garuda Indonesian Airlines Flight GA 206, by DC-9 "Woyla" was en route from Palembang to Medan, a domestic flight between two Indonesian cities. The plane had flown from Jakarta at 0800, was in transit to Palembang, and from there was scheduled to make the trip to its final destination at Medan, arrival time estimated 1055.
Once in the air, however, two passengers got up from their seats. One went to the cockpit while the other stood in the aisle. Moments later, by 1010, Woyla was completely under the control of five hijackers, all armed. The hijacker in the cockpit ordered the pilot to fly the plane to Colombo, Sri Lanka, but the pilot said that the fuel wouldn't be sufficient to travel that distance. Then the plane was then flown to Penang, Malaysia.
The terrorists are from Jihad Commando group, Moslem radicals that responsible for raids on police stations, military bases, and various acts of sabotage in Indonesia from 1977-1981. In the midday, Indonesian government went on red alert. Indonesia had never dealt with serious hijacking before. The first case ever was in 1974, when a desperate Marine hijacked a domestic flight for money, then he was killed by the pilot himself. In an effort to familiarize themselves with the layout of the aircraft, later that evening the newly created Indonesian's Special Force, Kophasanda, borrowed another DC-9 from Garuda Airlines and used it for combat training.
The plan itself wasn't good. Woyla has left Malaysia after refueling, bound to Don Muang, Thailand. An old female passenger was allowed to go in Malaysia. The terrorists have declared their demand: The release of Jihad Commandos that have been imprisoned by Indonesian government, and US $ 1.5 million. They also demand a plane is prepared for the released prisoners, to an yet unspecified destination. They have bomb set on the plane. Things get harder for the Kophasanda commander. He suspects that the plane will be flown to a state in Middle East. But as the plane has been relocated from Malaysia, the step was going further for him. Also, US Ambassador has called him and told him that US really counts on him to the safety of American citizens abroad the flight. In 2100, 29th March, 35 members of Kophasanda left Indonesia in a DC-10, all wearing civilian clothes.
Thailand government itself didn't agree much on Indonesian choice to use military force. They preferred negotiation, the same way that ended the taking of Israeli embassy in Bangkok by Black September terrorists back in 1972. Finally, they let the military way, considering that the owner of the aircraft is Indonesian government, and all the terrorists are Indonesian nationals, from a Moslem extremist group. The CIA chief of station in Thailand met later with Kophasanda to lend them flak jackets and breaching kits for the assault.
March 31
0230, an American journalist on the top of a bus surrounding Don Muang, woke his comrades, international journalists from Indonesia, US, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, West Germany, France, and Australia. 500 meters from Woyla, armed soldiers walked silently in the bushes. The plan was, blue team and red team would climb the wings then wait at the side doors. The windows of the plane have been blinded. While green team will breach the rear door, all will enter at the same time at the go-code.
0243: Thailand commando team moves in, waiting on the runway to prevent the possibility of escaping terrorists.
0243: The go-code is given. The three teams enter, but not at the same time. Green team entered first, only to find that a terrorist was alert in the rear side of the plane. The terrorist fired, striking one assault team member in an area of his stomach unprotected by his flak jacket. The hijacker then killed himself. Blue team and red team then entered, shot two others terrorists on sight, as the passengers ducked and closed their eyes. The commando team shouted to the passengers, telling them to rush out. A hijacker, with grenade in hand, also ran outside and tried to throw it. But other passengers pinpointed him and the commando team finished him before the front door. The last terrorist was killed outside the plane.
0245: With the area secure, paramedics immediately rushed to the plane to try and save the pilot who had accidentally been shot by a terrorist during the raid.
However, US reporters would soon become distracted from this event as reports of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan began to filter in.
All terrorists aboard were killed, as were the pilot of Woyla and the anti-terrorist team member. The Asian Wall Street Journal, as well as Asian and European papers praised the good work by Indonesian Special Force. Indonesian intelligence itself later declared that the main goal of the terrorists' organization was to throw the government and to create an Islamic state in Indonesia. It is suspected that they have asked for support to Islamic Republic of Iran, as the leader of the hijacker (the one that killed the CT member then shot himself) has written a letter to Ayatollah Khomeini, behalf of the Indonesian Islamic Revolutionary Council, asking for aid from Iran.

Nice going, makavelli. Those are some interesting pics!
Thanks for posting. I liked the close-up of the carrying handle of the ss2 with the little white stickers on the left side of the receiver to remind the shooter what the course of fire was gonna be at 400 & 500 meters.

Hey Makavelli, Can you give us some links or more info on detachment 88? Are they the ones who rescued the kidnapped Dutch couple (with the pregnant wife) in Irian several years ago? Those dudes crouched on top of the train with the MBB-105 hovering very close by look pretty switched on....

The pictures of the current President in Camo are rather unusual, too..Nice find!

keep up the good work!

I think that new assaultrifle looks worse than the indonesian-FNC. But looks are of course not everything and if it handles better than it's an improvement.

And can anyone tell me why they re-introduced those SF camouflage patterns like that 'bleeding' pattern. Compared to DPM I think those patterns are worse especially the bleeding-pattern with it's red colour. Or were they just put back into service to make the SF look more special?

Nice pictures btw. I allways liked the look of that bright DPM. I think it's a very good camouflage.

as an eye and ear of the brigade, tontaipur have a duty to gather information with intelligent way, infiltration behind the enemy lines, interrogation, interviews, and gather all other information for the use of tactical combat

while tontaikam is to defend our resources from enemy's intelligent..
tontaikam is defence, tontaipur is offence. in practice, tontaipur practices to infiltrate area with tontaikam defence on it.

correct me if im wrong..

thanks for crrecting me..

if you see the small island where the red line starts, it is singapore. Singapore and Indonesia have agreement for airforce that Singapore could use Indonesia's north sumatran island (small island) which is located the left side of Singapore. but in the picture, you see the red line are in the right side of Singapore.Yellow line is the border between indo and spore.

there is another picture, but this one is not identified. even if its identified, its not released to the media
http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/7189/pesawattakdikenal3ps.jpg

if you see the blue line, it start from sea and end in sea...
and theres no a single country in south east asia that have aircraft carrier.

i hope it explain a little bit..im sorry if there is mistake, coz i got the info from indonesian forum.

i have no experience with the Indonesian rifle but I did use the Swedish version during my military service and, I have also been testing the original FN-FNC in Usa. It is a great rifle the only thing I can complain about is that the stock can be hard to fold on old wornout rifles.

I aggree with your opinion about the original version of SS - 1 but their SS - 1 is slightly different. Some of the components weren't original parts. Perhaps that is the cause of overheating. They introduce the newest SS - 1, called the SS - 2 "The Improved series".

A brief about Indonesian-made combat vehicle

There are several institutions that contributed in it, those are :

1. PT. DI (formerly IPTN)
2. PT. Sentra Surya Ekajaya (in cooperation with PT. DI)
3. PT. Pindad
4. Bengpus PAL TNI-AD
5. Marinir

PT. DI and PT Sentra Surya Ekajaya

PT. DI designed P2 KEV to respond requirement of local made Armored Personal Carrier (APC). Few Prototypes were built, but due to limitation of budget at that time it was impossible for PT DI to bring it to mass production.

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q189/darkpole/P2V1PTDI.gif

Therefore PT DI search for local counterpart which are willing to invest into this program. There was PT Sentra Surya Ekajaya, a company in west java who got interested to bring the prototype into mass production.
The PT. DI P2 KEV was then produced into at least 3 variants, which are :

1. P2 Komando

3. P2 APC Police
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q189/darkpole/P2-APC2.jpg

Im not sure wether this is P2 APC - Police or one made by PT Skunk Engineering Jakarta
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q189/darkpole/unknowAPC.jpg

They're also developing other special purpose vehicle , The P3 Ransus/Cheetah

PT. Pindad

APR (Angkut Personil Ringan) - Light Personel Carrier
During TNI Operation in Aceh, lots of TNI trucks were being ambushed by GAM. TNI asked Pindad to build a new vehicle that could give better protection to soldiers, cheap, easy to maintain and must be delivered into service in shortime after.

They soon came up with APR-1-V1, a 4-wheeled APC based from commercial Isuzu truck. With 4.570cc Diesel engine it produce 3.200 HP, It could carry up to 12 persons and speed up till max 100 kmh.

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q189/darkpole/big4012005.jpg

Pindad also made further variant of it called APR-2, but unluckily I couldn't find any info about it. I only got two pictures which I assumed to be APR-2, any info about it?

APS (Angkut Personel Sedang) - Medium Personel Carrier
Pindad's further development is APS, base of APS is Texmaco 6 wheeled truck.
The vehicle's design was kinda unique since it has 2 sliding door on both side of vehicle along with one on its back. The vehicle was more like to be a military limo rather than a combat vehicle.
There were two variants made, the APS-1-V1 and APS it self. They basically the same, but APS has a single centered driver compartment and 2 sliding doors on it side.
Both variants could carry up to 13 personel, and it equipped with 12.7 caliber, AGL and possible 20 mm's.

Prototype Panser 6x6

The new 6x6 panser is still in prototype, Pindad even havent got any name for it.
But surely the vehicle was designed as true panser since its no longer built from any commercial truck. It has monoqoque body with engine compartment linear to passanger cabin, which makes it fully upgradeable into full amphibious vehicle.
The engine is Texmaco 6.595 Turbo Diesel with 260-300 HP. Top speed about 115 kmh and could carry up to 13 fully equipped personels. It also has cupola on its top-side.
Two of the prototypes were broght to parade on TNI anniversary. And It seemed that the army already ordered 100 of them.

3. Rantis Paksi

I still dont have any detailed information about this vehicle.
I have few pictures which I assumed to be Paksi. I hope anyone could give me further detail about it.

I think both images show the same vehicle, the RPP or RPP-1 (Ranpur Pengangkut Personil). The vehicle is based on a LandRover chassis and is powered by a 93hp Isuzu turbocharged diesel engine. There is also a 6x6 variant.

Edit: the vehicles are similar but not the same. The one in 4-colour camo is probably the RPP-1.

Pindad also made further variant of it called APR-2, but unluckily I couldn't find any info about it.

I understand that the APR I-V1 is also called the APR Versi Polri (police?) while the APR II-V2 is the military model (Versi TNI).

Rantis stands for Kendaraan Taktis or Tactical Vehicle in English,
Indonesia has built several Prototype of rantis, only few of them are brought to production.

One of them is Maesa PT44.

APS1-V1

I also read somewhere the designator APS2-V1. This might be either the one with the single cabin or maybe the VAB clone ("Panser 6x6").

I guess it is. TNI use several CIS products, The Pindad itself already in agreement with CIS to manufacture the CIS 40-AGL 40 mm Grenade Launcher
