none were more enjoyable than the procurement and redistribution of alcohol. let me tell you something, sometimes it wasnt easy procuring and redistributing. finding the right iraqi businessman to get the supplies was tough and in the end came down to a stroke of luck. redistrubting the supplies was always a gamble, had to play it smart and lookout for CID. plus that was on top of mission prep/execution. so it was tough. sure i could have quit, i could have pulled a Ben Griffen. i didnt though and im glad ill never have to live with that shame.

first post btw, hello everyone.

I know a man who used to work as an electrician at the air bases in Saudi Arabia as a contractor and they brewed beer quite often, but when inspections came they were given advanced warning and would bury all the equipment, supplies and stock. I would imagine such things go on quite regularly elsewhere, where alcohol is banned.

We had 1st graders from Texas sending us bottles of Wild Turkey disguised as apple cider. Do tell how you got that sand booze though.

Well I do believe he was calling out Ben Griffin, the ex-SAS guy who quit because of Americans' "illegal acts" while deployed in Iraq. This is obviously his favorite "illegal act." BTW, this guy is legit. I stand by Cougar Von Negatron.

Your story is BS, booze is easy to get. There would be an Iraqi van that drove around to all the infantry checkpoints. Also, the Iraqis would trade beer and whiskey for parts off of the vehicles we'd capture.

I think you failed to miss the sarcasm. And at the "dry" bases it is very hard to get alcohol. You must have been air force or something.

My father once mentioned several Marines from the Airbase in Beauford SC were busted bringing marijuana home from Philipines deployments in the access panels inside F4 Phantoms.
These guys were all F4 ground support and knew what areas inside the plane could hold the dope.....never knew exactly how they were found out but he thought it was a clever attempt.

Here in Saudi, bootleg whiskey like Johnny Walker go for US$120/liter bottle. So we make our own liquor. Usually brown sugar, yeast. If we're patient, potatoes. I haven't gone blind yet so it must be ok. Our ultimate test how quickly the liquor on a teaspoon burns.

Bia,

Best MJ is grown in the hinterlands in Southern Mindanao, Philippines. When I was in ROTC, we were called up to help burn a field. We have tiny bottles of Marijuana oils and stuff.

Welcome, but I'll think I'll have to raise the BS flag. Any type of liquor could be found, and easily bough, and as far as hiding it from CID, are you joking me they were the best to ask on where to find it.

When I was at Camp Wolf we met an american 1st class Pvt that had lived in Spain for years. We spent the whole afternoon talking about the time he was living in Madrid.

I had brought some red wine bottles with me, and we decided to arrange a "party". He and his fellows bought some pizzas, while me and my mates provided the alcohol.

I filled my 2 canteens with the red wine, and bought some cokes. Here in Spain we use to mix red wine and coke: It's called Calimotxo, and it tastes sweet and smooth.

We met in the tables just in front of Camp Wolf's PX to have our little party. It was funny, 'cos we had to open the coke and drink just a little gulp. Then, to pour the red wine from the canteen, and, finally, to shake the coke can to mix it up well.

We spent the night talking, playing cards, laughing at our lucky, etc... and nobody realized that we were drinking alcoholic drinks.

Aaaah, good times !

Spent many nights having a "few" beers at the Spanish mess in Camp Warehouse in Kabul. That's where I was the first time I was ever under fire. I was having a "few" with some German Airborne pals when we got rocketed.BTW Roldwin, I hope Mahou is'nt indicative of all Spanish beer cause it's really crappy man....lol. Oh well as they say beggars can't be choosers ect.

Mahou sucks, I rather prefer San Miguel or Estrella Damm

Hahahanow I laugh at it, but, it's not funny being under mortar fire while drunk. It happened to me once, while having a "parrillada" (spanish version of a barbecue)

Nah, great first post. I love sarcasm.

Alcohol is easy to get in Iraq...I don't know how many times I've seen drunk drivers. Arab, Kurd, and Ex-pat.

Rumor has it that 1/2 of ISAF Kabul is stoned out of their minds off the local stuff... (of course there were a lot of Canadians there, so I guess that makes sense :) )

We used to meet sceptics in the DFAC in iraq and after getting to know them we invited them to the "Brit House", where we spent many an evening pissed up!
Usually laughing at the difference in language alll though we all spoke english.
On a quiz night we would have at least 7 countries represented, we sometimes went through 20 crates of beer on such get togethers.
My advice is to find the nearest Brit detatchment and make firends!!
They will help you out! I know we did.
PM me for the brit house movie from our sigs det.

Good ole Camp Warehouse, it's hard not to endulge while over there. Camp Invicta has red wine on the tables in the Italian Mess. Talk about tempting.......

Damn, who's call was that Division, BDE or BN?

I know it was easy to get booze in Iraq since it's legal anyway. There were lot's of kids selling off the side of the road. Unbelievably one group of four NG transportation guys were found walking and drunk in one of those open markets by the side of the road in Al Hillah by some Marines and one of my teams coming back from a mission. No K-pots, no body armor, nothing.

In Astan... very tough for the US to get booze... but ISAF had beer gardens and the like. Hash was VERY easy to find. Hell most the AMF guys smoked the stuff. I even spent a couple of interesting nights with ANA guys around the campfire. Actually, pretty normal for the Afghans. Hell, I saw 10 foot, fully budded pot plants in Kandahar's central park as well as on the UN compound!
