There is a guy on a certain forum i visit claiming he is ex Delta. People have asked him questions etc and one of them was what unit did he originally come from. He claims he was recruited from a regular infantry unit and Delta recruit from all parts of the Army, even National Guard and Reserve units. I was just wondering if any of you guys know if this is true or not, as i am sceptical of this guys claims.

Hiya,
Well the information I do know about the unit, the unit does recruit from all areas of the army, including the national gaurd, but apparently most operators come from the US Army Rangers and the Green Berets...Don't know if you know that Delta was based on the British SAS, Charles Beckwith the creator of Delta went and served with the SAS for a year and then came back to the US and wanted to create a similar unit to the SAS and he created Delta Force...Delta is very similar to the SAS including its selection and training etc...The SAS also recruits from all areas of the British Army, but again most soldiers come from the Parachute Regiment.....The British Special Boat Service, our version of the US Navy SEALs, you can only join from the Royal Marines and not from any other regiment in the British Army...In my mind I think the SBS are better than the SAS partly because of this factor and also their training is more demanding and harder.....Remember, don't believe what people tell you especailly if he said he used to be in Delta......Its not something you usually go and tell people......Any more questions, I'll be happy to try and answer.

I did know most of that but thanks anyway. I agree with your point about telling people you were in Delta, not something i would expect someone who was to do. Its something about the way the guy writes stuff, some of it sounds like its written by a 16 year old, and all his info is stuff that anyone who has done their homework can find out. Im not saying he is a liar, and he could well be telling the truth, im just not convinced, as we've had fakers before.

Personally, i don't believe any respectable SOF member (Or Ex member), would reveal much else besides saying he was in a SOF unit. From my experience , a Ex D-boy would only mention it if it was tied into either a Book (Beckwith, Haney), or a Company (Paul Howie). Due to the nature of operations by groups like Delta, and ST6/DEVGRU, i would say not many (If any at all) of guys who have served inside them, would advertise it much. JMHO anyway, i'm not a SFODD member (Or in the Army for that matter, Yet), so you can take my opinion or what it's worth - not much.

Thanks for your oppinions,
I'm not like most people, I actually find it interesting knowing what other people have to say about the subject or a particular picture...I just want to know what people think because alot of people have very interesting things and point out things other people haven't noticed or didn't know so that's why I like to find out what people say...You're right about don't believe most of these people who say they are Delta or another SF unit....Spec Ops are professionals, they are known as "Quiet Professionals" and don't particularly tell a random stranger on the Internet they used to be in Delta or something, they keep it close to themselves. I don't care if the person I speak to who they are or what they do, as long as they have something to say, which is not taking the piss out of anyone for what they have said..which you do get alot...which I find fecking annoying, but hey that's life..Anymore oppinions you have about any other spec ops area, I would be glad to here what you think....

During the Q&A section of Mark Bowden's BHD series in the Inquirer, one of the D-boys responded and said they recruited mainly from the Rangers and SF, and took exception to someone who suggested that the 82nd Airborne was also a large part of the selection pool. He said there was only one guy from the 82nd in his selection course and he failed. I would take this to mean that the guys invited to try out from other regular units are even slimmer, but that's just my interpretation.

I was recruited to SFOD-D right out of basic training, so it is quite possible that they recruit from national guard as well. :P :P

...it wasn't pointless.
He brought it up so that a true higspeed operator/someone that really knows about delta, could laugh at some idiots that obviously aren't plugged into the shadowy world of special operations.....you know unlike TF......hmmmm.

How many more times is this crap going to be wheeled out by people who havn't got a scooby what they're talking about.
I can't be bothered to type it all out again. Look back at some of the old threads on UKSF.
Please, if you don't know what the f**k you're talking about, shut up.
