3 lines, 17 syllables, 5/7/5 is the standard configuration. Make them funny or flaming just as long as they fit the standard structure. Lets see you be creative....

It's not hard so much as it's tedious. You have to keep going back to make sure that what you're writing fits the format. I had a really good one almost finished, but then I realised the second had too many syllables. Fixing would have chnaged the meaning of the thing, so I scrapped it and used it as part of a different poem.
Here are a couple of mine. They're not about anything Forum-related.
Travelling
Velvet night breezes
stir the embers of friendship
quietly shaping stones.
Passages
Pinpricks of light shine
like holes in the wall of love
pure nad glowing, poetic.
Post To The Sky
There again passes pain
unknown to solid chambers,
faded hearts yearning.
Visions
Little pebbles rolling
no more than time neglected,
fire of love long lost.
I have more somewhere, I just have to find them. I wrote them in high school.
If you like what you see, I post poetry and essays to FictionPress.com. Here's the link:

According to my trusty American Heritage dictionary.
hai•ku An unrhymed Japanese poem having three lines of five, seven, and five syllables
syl•la•ble 1. A unit of spoken language consisting of a single uninterrupted sound forming a word, such as wit, or part of a word, such as per- in person. 2. One or more letters or phonetic symbols representing a spoken syllable.
Let me see if I understand correctly, this means that there is 2 syllables in haiku and three in syllable, am I correct.

Yeah. It was an old English assignment where we had to think of an inanimate object and write a poem about it. I picked a stapler right away. mainly because I had stapled my thumb not too long before that day.
Typical me, I was playing with dangerous objects.

A true haiku is only three lines, but I don't see why you can't make it multi-stanza. It would certainly be interesting to read!

Something different.
Oh, I did a little research. While some people do Haikus in multiple stanzas, the original art forum was supposed to be ONLY 17 syllabols, period.
The way I read it, the idea was to capture the essence of the moment in absolute sincere simplicty...
Which makes sense.
I sort of wasn't paying attention in High School when we went over this stuff...or maybe I simply forgot. After spending a period in Latin class, going straight to English was painful at best...

Well, let's see. I went to Walnut Hills HS. It was a public College Prep school in Cincinnati, OH (grades 7 thru 12).
I know we went over Haikus before I was a junior, whihc means I would have been around 16...1986-87...
We covered all sorts of stuff at that school. I went for a more of a liberal arts rather than a Physics/Math?Computers path. Three years of Latin, three years of Chinese (Mandarin). Comparitive Politics AP, European History AP, Art History AP, Studio Art...
A rather eclectic education for the age...and cosidering it was a public school. A majority of it has been lost between learning other more important things and...
...lots of beer. :D

Impressive offerings for a public high school! My school was very small, so I didn't have the same opportunities. However, I feel like I got a pretty good education. I'm quite certain I've retained everything I ever learned.... ;)
A few really important things.....
1) tilt the glass when pouring a beer
2) tilt the quarter at just the right angle before bouncing
3) know when to say when ;) (took me a looooong time to learn that one, and sometimes I still have to have a refresher course)

And you'll ask yourself...

Is my mind? Out in the wa-
