These were captured VC weapons. All are handmade. They were very ineffective at a distance, but are deadly at close range. Soc Trang. 1963-64

More captured VC weapons and equipment. From left to right, the weapons are: Danish Madsen 9mm sub-gun, British STEN MkII 9mm, and US M2 carbine and interestingly, a Chinese-Communist copy of a Thompson M1A1. Soc Trang 1963-64

The VC were more likely to use this kind of a Katyusha Rocket Launcher:

You could notice surrounding hills behind. I have been to CanTho, this is right in the Delta zone, the land is flat handed. This picture was probably taken somewhere else in country...

More captured VC weapons. French MAT-49 9mm sub-guns captured from the French during their occupation. Soc Trang 1963-64
The VC modified the 9 mm MAT-49 to fire the 7.62 cartridge. You can notice it from the thin barrel.

Very common in the early days of the war (1964-1966) on UH-1B and C models. When introducing the Cobra by the late 1967, the type was later withdrawn.
