anyone see that new movie, X-Men 2? They had some pretty cool Special Ops in it. A few mistakes but they still looked pretty bad ass. Anyone have any comments or pictures theyd like to add?

X2 was great to watch so much better than the first one. As an X-men fan since the age of 10 I can say I found the military raid in the X-Mansion pretty intense. At the same time you can't really look for any authenticity on what unit the soldiers belonged to or if their equipment and transportation would support this. It's just a waste of time.

I saw the movie...
interesting how they used P90s instead of something more conventional like M4s or G36s (like in Tomb Raider).
My money would be on mercs hired by the US gov't (deniability) because of the Hueys and a single Sea Knight (plus the use of P90s). *IF* the producers wanted it to be the US military, Stryker would have been wearing Army/Marine/Navy uniform though the entire movie and they would have used blackhawks ;)
Just a practical question though...those urban BDUs the guys were wearing..are they really effective? I have a pair and under certain lights, the white glows like the sun.

Nice observations. But I hafta say this to anyone questioning the authenticity of the specfor fellas in the movie:it's a comic book movie. It's supposed to look high speed low drag super functional and Blast-o-Rocket Shazaam cool. And to be frank....the P90 looks like something from a comic book.

Actually bad observation. First off they are not mercs according to the army rank they were wearing. But what contradicts this is their transportation, The Sea Knights. Watching the movie I tried to identify them but it just didn't make sense to me. So honestly linking them to a real life unit is impossible because the movie was not given military cooperation to use proper helicopters. So like what a. enders said, its a comic book movie. The film wanted to let us know that military bad asses were being sent to capture the mutants ( again why they are not mercs) armed with drug coated needle guns. Stryker and the "President " identified them as Special Operations and that is what they are. But dont bother trying to link them to a real life unit or actually questioning the director on who they actually are. That'll make you look more like a geek than usual.

oh, I know. Im not trying to link them to a specific unit. I was just saying that if the producers were trying to impress upon my the fact that they were a specific unit like Army Rangers for example....they didn't succeed. Yes I know it's a comic. Yes I know they didn't get military cooperation. I was just talking in the context of the movie, I saw them as mercs.
BTW....rank badges are pretty standard as far as number of cheverons. (ie- three "stripes" in MOST armies denotes 'the sarge'). However, if you want to get REALLY technical, they were wearing their stripes in the wrong place. US wears them on the Arms...these guys wore it right smack dab in the middle of their vest like the Danish do. (Or it's some other scandinavian army...sorry if I'm wrong.) ;) ;)
but like we agree....it's just a movie. :D

Had a look at that Warrior 2025 stuff.
It's all a bit far fetched and doesn't address the issue of what happens when it breaks. All military kit breaks and the more it costs or the more bateries it uses the faster it does it in my experience.
When the it all kicks-off do you really have time to scroll through some dodgy command menu or do you, in fact, just have time to instantly react to a threat. I'm all for more information, but come on. That computer won't last five minutes in the hands of a squaddie, let alone in a firefight.
It's shiny though. Squaddies like shiny new things.
mmm shiney...perfect to tell mr. snipey where u are...

But Wolverine is hott-est.
BTW it should be the SEALs or a Marine unit from their look but the senior NCO was wearing Army rank so you can scratch Marines out..... wait who knows maybe it was a joint operation.... an experimental hot shot team handpicked by Stryker , trained to capture and neutralize mutants. Whoever they were Wolvie took them out without working up a sweat. Its so fun trying to bring some realism to that world.

uh.. guys, it's a movie about mutants. How realistic is that? No, you CAN'T link the taskforce to a real unit, and no 'urban' camoflage doesn't work well for anything other then movies, and yes, the P90 is a good system.

P90s are excellent for operators like these guys. It's compact and lightweight, making it ideal for CQB and room clearing. Plus, its ammo, the 5.7mm. round, is designed to penetrate any soft body armor in existence. A very effective weapon!
Also, I'm working on my own version of Stryker's troops. I'll be using the urban camo. Still need to get body armor, and that shoulder/collar piece could be a pain, but I'll give it a shot. Any suggestions?

Only "urban camo I use. Works well for BBQs, malls, and just hanging out. You don't attract attention. OPSEC/PERSEC.

*I know... I have to be blamed*
Back to the topic: why so many silenced weapons (P90 in this movie) are not silenced when using a silencer...?
In that case I can't even imagine the noise if there were no silencers... :|
