Didnt know about the ****** abuse but the physicall abuse is present in almost every Islamic school.. As kids when we went to after-school Islamic classes we were beaten if we messed around, didnt do homework, didnt finish a specific surat etc..
This was in Holland btw, I didnt go to Islamic schools in the UK cause I was too old and didnt need to but my little brother goes to one nearby run by an Islamic family, he recieved a beating once or twice as I recall but not anything that left a mark or anything..
I dont know what to think of it to be honest, at one side its probally a bad thing and kids should not be beaten full-stop but I really dont regret it at all.. It taught me a thing or two.. But on the other side I believe discipline is a good thing.. Kids dont really get beaten very hard and most Parents are aware of this.. Not sure how it goes fully in British Islamic schools but you always have extreme ones I guess.

In the UK, it's usually just a slap around the hands or something. It's not a pulp beating like people make it out to be.

I like Catholic priests more, they're so much more discret with it.

They use the old phonebook trick?
Dont know what you mean by that but they use sticks most of the time (wood ones)..
Also just remembered, they sometimes make you sit in an uncomfortable position for punishment, like putting your head between your knees and holding your ears by putting your hands behind your knees so your in a locked position..
