Those IED's are some nasty f******. RIP to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. One of my brothers who spent 04 and 05 in Iraq once told me a story of one of his buddies walking up within 20 feet of an early IED and it detonating and all he had was some tears in his uniform, shrapnel in his vest and a few scratches on his legs........that's one lucky dude. I hate to see our tanks mangled like that especially knowing that guys my age might have died in them.

It´s kinda wierd looking at those pictures. I was a tankdriver myself, and you tend to get a "I´m invinseble" feeling when your hatched up and adrenaline flowing. Dosen´t take much to make million $ equipment "1 $ a pound mechandise" at the junkyard.
R.I.P to the fallen.

How effective is an IED, I mean is it likely that it kills you if you sit in a Bradley or an Abrams?

Yep, but it depends how big IED is and how far from target...

Just a question.....if your in a HUmvee and an iED hits you, and lets say you make it, unharmed...arent you deaf.. through the blast?

Many of the RPG hits seemed to be at the engine blocks of the humvee's, hopefully that was to the drivers and passengers benefit.

Depens on where you are. The shockwave and sound need to reach your ears. If you are behind armor the shockwave and soundwaves will not reach you directly so the effect will be much less.

ruptured eardrums are pretty common I would imagine.

Very somber photos, indeed. What I can NOT understand is the "Stryker". Why field something that can not withstand a 1960's RPG-2?? Oh wait, that's right...when you're the ex Chief of Staff and you retire to head up a MAJOR defense contractor, you use your influence for profit! What a f*cking bastard. A coffin on wheels....

RIP to those that gave their all..

Damn so many destroyed hummers, sad sad pictures. Hummer was not designed to withstand this kind of blasts. Instead of armoring a vehicle that was never ment to be armored, money should have been spent for a new generation of infantry patrol vehicles that are designed to be armored from the drawing board.

In these pics we see armored hummers torn up, imagine what was happening before they got the uparmored version???

some of those pics look like they've been hit by US missiles to finish them off, so that insurgents can't take anything from the vehicles. So those photos are a bit misleading in that they're not solely hit by RPGs and IEDs.

This is what the troops need to be in, a direct hit driving over one, the soldiers inside recieved only concussions & bruises but did not die. Notice the extent of the damage. The vehicle did what it was built for.

Our guys are doing the best they can with what they have got and with the training they recieve prior to going the sandbox. Unfortunately, getting the very best to those who need it isnt a motivating factor when half the country feels like we arent really fighting a war because they can still guzzle gas, spend freely, live in oblivion and ignore all the signs.

RIP to those who didnt make it. True heroes.

A TOW missile costs at least $10,000 apiece. I don't think anybody in their right mind would want to waste it on a wreckage...unless it's a downed bird with sensitive equipment they can't move. RIP to the fallen, shame to the Bush Corp.

They have sensitive equipment on Bradley's/Humvees also. You have GPS systems now on Strykers and I would imagine Bradleys/Abrams. Humvees carry some things themselves too.

Some time ago I saw a video with Iraqi insurgents around a destoryed Bradely celebrating when hellfire hit the bradely to destory it killing the insurgents as well.

Im pretty sure I've seen other on this forum and seen video of the airforce destroying downed Abrams and Bradelys to make sure the inurgents don't get anything from them such mentioned: GPS, ammo, shells and other electrontic and communication equipment.

Look at the tank on the right. The side of the turret has a hole in it, that hole wasnt caused by an RPG - I belive, but a anti tank missile most likely fired from a helicopter.

Why do they allow pictures of destroyed equipment to be taken??? It makes such a gret propaganda weapon for the bad side. Should be like in Desert Storm, no photos allowed. Especially leaving Abrams hulks lying in the open, or even worse putting trains with tens of destroyed Abramses marked as RADIOACTIVE into the open view.

your right....ive been thinking the same....but the iraqi army had milan and hot and loads of russian atm......but ive seen some bradlys being hit by a hellfire..but i do think the majority of the pics show humvess and co. with the damage caused my ied or rpgs.

And i think the abrahams would look different, when hit by a Hellfire.. plus the Hellfire hits from the top!

Beat me to it, but what all could cause that? Sabot? ATM, hellfires hit from the top right?

Yeah next thing you know they'll be allowing WOMEN into frontline duty!!

Desert Storm was notorious for the censoring the whole conflict received. Censorship is not the way forward

What a grenade would do why bother with a missile? Especially when a missile probably costs more than a new vehicle? Talking about sensitive equipment, more often than not, it's too late to retrieve them anyway. Sometimes, nearby insurgents will make their way to the wreckage before the allies do.

Regarding that Bradley incident, I think the commander gives the order to fire more out of rage and punishment than trying to destroy what's left.
