GOE ( Grupo de Operações Especiais ) is the PSP special operations unit - therefore civilian.
Kruglerek I think I have some photos around here. Let me check.
Those photos that you posted are a "little" old. That´s normal because there´s almost no recent footage ( mainly photos ) about GOE due to the secrecy that this unit represents. Currently there are 12 GOE in IRAQ protecting Portuguese personnel. Somo other missions knowed were deployments to Guiné-Bissau and former Zaire in the late 90s.

Cannibal, how many polices Portugal does have? And how is their organization (military/civilian; national, local, etc.).

I´ve looked for somo photos here but I dont have any rigth now. I think they are in the other PC. I will check that later.


Cannibal, how many polices Portugal does have? And how is their organization (military/civilian; national, local, etc.).


Portugal has 2 polices. The PSP ( Polícia de Segurança Pública - Public Security Police ) and the GNR ( Guarda Nacional Republicana - National Republican Guard ). The first is totally civilian but the second ( GNR ) are militarized.

Normally the PSP is responsible for the security in large and big-sized cities. GNR is responsible for the security in less populated zones, however both polices can act in both places.

GOE, however are very well trained in military missions too, and it´s normal to see GOE members training with the Navy and the Air Force.
