California Senate Bill SB 1437, if enacted into state law, would require schools to buy textbooks "accurately" portraying "the ****** diversity of our society" and would require students to learn "the contributions of people who are lesbian, gay, bi****** or transgender to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America."

My take on it is this: There are different viewpoints as to the role homo******ity should have in American society. There are those who say it is an abomination and should be banned outright. There are those who say it is as natural as traditional hetero******ity and should be mainstreamed. Finally, there are those such as me who say that while homo******ity may be morally wrong and not reverent or wholesome behavior, we should let God do the judging and homo******ity should nevertheless be tolerated to a certain extent in the interest of defending personal freedom.

And my problem with the proposed law is this: The Gay Left in California is attempting to use the education system not for the EDUCATION but rather INDOCTRINATION. Please note my WP dictionary definition of indoctrination because I think is summizes well the intent of this law "cause to accept a set of beliefs uncritically through repeated instruction."

A good education system will teach a student how to assemble all the facts about an issue and enable him or her to come to an informed decision about that issue on his or her own. I spent a period of time wrestling with this issue while I tried to reconcile my religious beliefs with my beliefs on personal freedom before I reached a stand on this issue I was comfortable with. The problem is that while many students going through this same process would indeed conclude homo******ity is completely proper and moral behavior in society, others would conclude on their own homo******ity is indeed morally wrong, unwholesome, and should not be taught to children. (Spare me the "don't you know people are born gay!" routine, I think it's crap). This segment of the student population is an obstacle to the objectives of the 'Gay Agenda' but a strictly controlled 'education' system is the best way of dealing with this 'threat'.

Its ridiculous, we should learn about peoples achievements, not simply focus on their ****** preference.. If their ******ity had a role in their achievements then by all means teach it.. But pointing out every single well known person who was homo****** is just an exercise in political correctness, and completely unnecessary..

A good comparison could be religion, we don't point out the religion of every single person, but if it was a major role in their achievements or resulted in a major event in history, e.g. the Crusades, Hitler, the Pope, then its mentioned..

So taking that into consideration, we should obviously continue to teach things such as the gay rights movements and their push for equality, etc etc (and this is generally a topic in any thorough History course or Social Studies course), but to point out every single person who is homo****** in my opinion is completely pointless and a waste of time

I suspect the "accurately" portrayed part would be skewed to further an
agenda.

Agreed, the ****** preference of our achievers need not be divulged
at all. The only reason people know of Eleanor Roosevelt is because
of her war efforts and the roles she played while her husband was
bed ridden late in his tenure. She became her husbands mouthpiece.
This is just one example with regard to this topic.

Was Margaret Thatcher married? Mao? Is Tony Blair? Chirac? Putin?
Unless their significant others accompany them on a trip or the
campaign trail no one save the local populace knows they exist.

Unfortunately we live in an era where everyone has an agenda. My daughter's
social studies book in 9th grade now clearly points out that Washington owned
slaves. Forget the fact he was the first President of the US and a so-so
military general... not important. It's more important to know he owned
slaves when slavery was not unlawful. Yeah, that's important.

Note, I said "social studies." History classes have become elective courses
in so many of our schools. The education system has decided to PC everything
through revisionist history which they've changed to social studies. They're
going to make the world right by exposing 200-year old wrongs [sic] rather
than teach the facts that made this country what it is today.

but to point out every single person who is homo****** in my
opinion is completely pointless and a waste of time Agreed. But the current trend is to run an expose in an effort to either
a) degrade their contribution to history, or b) make more out of their
alleged ****** indiscretions or homo******ity. As you said, unless it played
a significant role in forming policy or had historical impact, why mention it?
Answer: to further an agenda.

I'm sure making kids learn even more stuff would create a good image about gay people:cantbeli:

seriously doubt the governator would allow such a law to pass. i agree that diversity should be taught but not in a way that would make ****** orientation into an ethnicity or race.

My Dad's ship stopped at LA during the early 60's and he said the whole docks area was the biggest gay haunt he had ever seen, the nightwatchman always insisted the crew guys got a taxi into town but my Dad said no he would keep the the money for the bars, he reckoned every corner he turned there was some big ole queen looking for trade. :)

i think the logic behind this is to show ****** orientation has nothing to do with one's achievements...that they can do good things like everyone else.
however, that sort of gets lost as they single out the fact that "this person was gay." and it appears to most people as the dreaded "gay agenda."

Political Correctness = Institutionalized Hypocrisy.

Gay subjects in the curriculum just like school prayers granted to non-Christian students but denied to Christians.
