What do people who've served in the army think about airsofters who wear patches from units in service. I'm not talking about reenactors who actually do their research, but people who just go out and buy things because they look, well, 'cool'. I airsoft myself, but I always thought it would be kind of disrespectful to just go out and buy a patch someone went through training to earn. What are your thoughts?

PS. I would've posted this in the airsoft forum, but I wanted to hear the opinions of those who've served in their country's armed forces.

Thanks for all the answers.

I'm honoured by it, It's good that these people want to emulate us and not spit on us.

When I see so many people wearing CADPAT and CF flags, it really does make me proud to see some peoples patriotism.

Most of the guys here think it's a good thing that younger people want to learn from them. I know in the past that quite a few of them have sent their old unit patches to youngsters. TriggerPuller and Ibstolidude and Beowulf as well as 11F5S have been rather generous in that regard.

Theres alot of people that do "impressions"..... make their gear look as much like a real soldiers as possible. These kind of people want to wear unit patches to complete the outfit, but I dont really see why its nessisary most of the time. How many units actually wear unit patches in action anyways? Usually you just see flag patches.

I think its kind of disrespectful to wear unit insignia to a unit you dont belong to.... things like the Ranger tab.... gotta earn that ****.
