Im going to be joining the military soon (hopefully as an officer in the army or RAF regiment) and I was wondering if anyone had any diet/exercise suggestions that I could put to use before I go up for selection.
I started a fitness regime last month which consists of, every day:
5am - 1 hour on cycling machine.
6am - 1 hour various dumbell lifting exercises.
7am - Breakfast (Porridge, Fruit/Oatmeal Cereal) 2 glasses of water.
12pm - 1 hour on cycling machine.
1pm - Lunch (Same items as breakfast)
6pm - 1 hour on cycling machine
7pm - 1 hour various dumbell lifting exercises.
8pm - Dinner (Grilled chicken or Pasta based meal)
I have noticed a general increase in fitness over the month and I have noticed some increase in my muscle mass, but I was wondering if there is anything else I could be doing? I want to be in the best possible condition when going up for selection :).

Holy ****, you're really blessed with time for training! You might wanna do some running though, as running is different from cycling... at least that's my personal experience.

Run outside
Do pushups work into them slowly if you havent done a ****load of them before.
Get the military to send you a recrutment manual if you don't already have one.
yikes why do you make it so complicated, just run a lot and do sit ups and push ups and you will be fine

That is a great thing definitely get some running in and get involved in a sport like boxing I box every Friday and Saturdays when I can and that keeps me in great shape. Might make you aggressive depending on what your job will be it could help. I wish you the best of luck.

lift three times a week, run 5 times a week, sleep minimum 7 hours a day, drink water, eat 4-6 small meals a day, ***.
Do all of that and you should be good enough for a trialathon. I gained like 25 pounds in 2 months by just doing that all last summer and I was hitting close to 200 pounds. I was packing some gun last summer

screw all that cycling BS. work out a cupla times a week, watch what you eat some, all that usual stuff...but most importantly...RUN. tie on them there nikes 'n hit the roads. the pushups n situps will come quickly enough, but running is key. get out there n run for 20-25 min a day, 6 days a week for starters, and add on distance as you get into better shape

And if you're going to run, WATCH THOSE KNEES!!!
You will get yourself some of if not _the_ best running shoes, and you will _never_ _ever_ run on asphalt/pavement or any other hard surface, you will stretch after each and every running session you had and you will stretch good and long!!
Or else, you'll get my knees, where you get some pills that does all they can to eradicate an inflammation (guess that's the word I'm looking for, or?) that won't stop and ease the pain a little.
So watch those knees of yours, they _can't_ get repaired and you only got a pair!

I have only two bits of advice other than common sense:
1.) Be prepared to be on your feet 16 hours+ a day so look after your feet every day.
2.) While preparing with proper exercise/diet is a good thing...try to take your last 2 days or so and relax, ley your muscles recover and spend time with the family before you go....and no bloody alcohol......we promise to save you some when you graduate boot...so make sure you graduate
