BTW: the Macedonian soldiers I've met were some poor bastards. Perhaps that was cause all of them were conscripts - perhaps regular troops ar better trained and equipped, although I doubt that.

It's just that in some of the eastern European countries it's a bit hard to distinguish a soldier from a policeman what with both of them having camouflaged BDU's on and AK's on their shoulders.

Yes Steave that is a Serbian salute meant to represent the (Father, Son and Holy Sprit). It is also a salute of most Orthodox Christians but has not really caught on with the Russians, Ukranians, Romanians, Greeks etc etc.

Either that soldier is a Macedonian Serb or a Serb volunteer. During the 2001 fighting with the Albanian Liberation Army in Macedonia it was rumoured that Serbian volunteers came down. But, it is more likely that the soldier in question is a Serb from the FYROM.

It is interesting that I was talking recently to a Serb from Macedonia and the topic of this crisis came up. Living around the areas of conflict and being born and raised in Macedonia he said that most of the Macedonian troops are either Serbian, Greek, Bulgarian or any other minority that lives in Macedonia. He said the Macedonian youth of military age either runs from conscription or pays their way out, leaving the OTHERS to fight their battles.

In my own opinion I'd say that this soldier is a Serb from Macedonia.

Is not a Serbian para-military as was quoted by AK Lover. It is clearly visible by the arm patches that these are Yugoslav Army regulars who are either SF or Professionals. I don't know where this photo was taken but I think it was more of a photo shoot during the Kosovo conflict of 1999.

When I was stationed in Kosovo I remember we didn’t have much to do with Macedonian army, but our infantry used to borrow a Macedonian shooting range (I don’t remember where). Well one time they managed to set the whole range on fire :oops: , and it took them and the Macedonians a lot of time and effort to put the fire out. I think it was in summer/fall of 2000. Have you heard of this story?
