View Full Version : Does anyone remember...

About 10 years ago, or so, there was an upper receiver that came out that was chambered in .50 AE to be used on the M16/AR15 lowers. There was even a magazine conversion kit that refitted the standard 30 round 5.56 mags into a 10 round .50 AE. The uppers were supposed to be interchangeable with regular uppers and cause no need for any modifications. Does anyone remember this? I don't know what made me think of it, (I am often victim to random thoughts) but I was curious of whatever happened to it. Thanks guys/gals

Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf is the one that comes to my mind but I think there was another one out there not sure if I am thinking of the tromix one or not.

Tromix (in .50 AE) and Alexander Arms (.50 Beowolf)...
Which is pretty much what they said...
I know the Beo only fits 4 rds to a 20 rd std mag and 6 in a 30.
Not too sure about the Tromix one, though I would imagine the same liimits would probably apply.
The AA variant can still uses the AR bolt and carrier since the @ss end of the round is still a .223.
Edit: Well, duh he asked about SE not Beo so, yeah, Tromix...though I am not too sure it was THAT long ago...maybe 2000? Limited run?

You and the other guys are all right about the Tromix in 50 AE: it is a .50 AE M16/M4 upper, but it is not the right one. It really was that long ago, I'm guessing the summer of '96 because I read about it the summer before I left for the Army. It was in an article in one of the gun magazines that I was reading at work at the time, something along the lines of Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement or something clever like that. I'm still searching, but the usual avenues aren't turning anything up so that's why I am asking you guys.
I know for sure it fit 10 rounds in a standard 30 round magazine, because it was one of the major selling points and that it had a different bolt and carrier. At the time they weren't sure about the stock lower being strong enough to handle the abuse of the round though. I don't know if any of that helps, if not it's not that big of a deal. I was just wondering about it and thought maybe one of the big gun guys on the forum remembered it. Thanks for helping, BTW.

The AA Beo I toyed with had a 30 w/10 rds combo, no question.

Really, I thought they could only stack 6? Just checked their website, nothing about 30rnd mags, but they had what looked like a 20 round mag that was listed as a "4 rnd mag".

They offer a 7rd'er. I will go back to the pics, but the one I played w/had 10 - perhaps it was not based off a standard 30rd mag.

Maybe it was a 40rd AR mag...that would get you 10.

Wasn't Barrett offering a .50 upper for a while as well? I might just be thinking of their 6.8 SPC.

I am not too sure if Barrett made a .50 upper. There are two companies that I know that make .50 BMG uppers for ARs...
But that's .50 BMG not .50 AE...

After shooting the M2, it's hard to imagine (I guess because I have never shot the Barretts) shooting a .50 BMG through a M16 variant.

Recoil is just a tad bit more than the RAI .50 BMG but a lot less than a Mauser.
