why is it that most of the time when pictures of Special Forces are posted(seals, 10th spec forces group, force recon, greenies, etc) they are seen wearing flight suits instead of ACU or Marpat,
somone suggested its for breaching rooms but regular forces seem to have no problem doing that in the acu,
its seems silly to me that they wear flight suits becuse the acu provides much better camoflouge

I could be wrong, but I think they wear Nomex flight suits for close quarters combat situations because of the fire hazards that go along with fighting inside buildings.
Mate in most missions such as CQB, they are normally turning up and assaulting from choppers or vehicles, hence camouflage goes out the window, and what leatherneck said. Although most uniforms these days are being made with fire hazards in mind.

Agreed. Camo is out the door in those situations and all the pyro going around makes nomex a logical choice. Plus, there is little restriction of movement in a flight suit as there might be in cammies.
Plus flight suits are ridiculously comfortable. Nothing like getting paid to wear pajamas to work.

They also have some conveniently-placed pockets. No belt also means takin' a wizz is quicker.

Plus if you happen to be like Chuck Norris and his Delta days you can shed your gear that much faster :)
You undo your belt to take a wizz :)? Don't you guys have a zipper fly on your trousers?

I think you'll find that most SOF types don't usually wear flight suits. Plus, the aviation BDU is like the regular BDU except its made of nomex and its got a few more pockets...

Too easy: The flt suit makes the fit of a armoured chest rigg(or similiar) with a million rds(+/- a few G's), 2 weapons of mass destruction, Radio Shack talkies and what ever else a dude may have too cram onto his person, so much more comfortable!.Did I mention 'functional'?
From the blouse(tucked in ), the pants(w/pockets) and the belt, i guess it would be a pain in the arse.
Lastly to round this post out: It really eliminates the dreaded 'Plumbers Crack' !
Too easy.

oh thanx, i still don;t think the pyrothechniques argument applies becuase convential forces now are engaged regularly in cqb evironments and are having to use pyrotech all the time,
it seems stupid that they would desigin the acu and make it umcomfortable to wear with a armour and a load bearing vest.

Those aircrew BDUs are quite nice. They have a couple of extra arm pockets for pens and such and a small zippered pocket. You can fasten the collar up around your to keep stuff from falling down there, armpit patches to let out head and a velcro back to keep their form and have a full length zippered and velcroed front rather than just the normal buttons, all in nomex. Pretty nice to go shooting in, dealings with fires and alsorts. Think my couple of sets of ABDUs in woodland camo cost me about $10 from a surplus shop in excellent condition.

My iPod fits nicely into the left arm zippered pockett.Nothing like watching/listening to files at optimal moments.

If you are still undoing your belt to take a wiz I suggest an enlargment my brother.
Lets not forget cool factor. As in they look cool as hell.
In all seriousness they are most likely wearing flight suits due to their mode of transportation. They spend enough time in the cargo hold of helicopters that it is in their best interest to wear something with nomex in it. If the Navy has a hard on for them wearing those stu[id looking friggin cranials than I would think they want them in flight suits as well. As for the Air Crew BDU's they are not as safe as a conventional flight suit. Army air crews had issues with flames shooting up the backs of the shirt during operations in Somalia. And as they are nomex they do not last anywhere near as long as traditional BDU's.
I have worn body armor for extended periods of time while in a flight suit and in BDU's, I can say it is no more or less comfortable than wearing bdu's with body armor on. The zippers on the chest pockets have nowhere other than your chest to go when the hard plate is pushing on them.

Flightsuits are very comfortable. During my security contractor days..I wore one for about a week..but I looked slightly out of sight when everyone was wearing street clothes..(IEDs,RPGs,gasoline=fire..not a good thing)
I wear a mil-spec summer weight flightsuit for my current job(oil industry contractor)..and it's better than the stuff that they offer you.
