Nina Countess Schenk von Stauffenberg, who died on Sunday aged 92, was the widow of the German officer who attempted to assassinate Hitler with a bomb in July 1944; along with her husband's co-conspirators, she bore the brunt of the Führer's thirst for revenge in the weeks after the attack.

Hitler was a very popular man and had some 40 attempts made on his life, but of course this was the most famous. He was quite lucky.

I remember watching a show on the history channel about the attempt on his life by his staff officers. Made a couple test and showed that the only reason hitler survived was because of the thick table leg between him and the explosives. Intresting as hell, can't remember the name though...

Also, if he had been in a solid concrete bunker the explosion in the hard confined room would have been far more lethal.
There was also the attempt of putting the explosive wine bottles in his plane, which failed to detonate.
