An Israeli security team will soon visit India to train local security forces and intelligence teams for anti-insurgency operations in Kashmir, The Times of India reported today. The deal will also include an agreement on intelligence sharing between the two countries. Last week, India signed a $1.1 billion deal with Israel to buy three Phalcon early warning radar systems. Pakistan said the sale "will accentuate strategic and conventional imbalance in South Asia."

"The Phalcon deal will contribute to the Israeli economy, and improve the reputation of the Israeli defense industry in the global market," said Defense Ministry Director-General Amos Yaron.

The Phalcon can pick up aircraft, including at low altitude, hundreds of kilometers away in any weather, day or night. It can also intercept and decode radio transmissions, anticipating in many cases the weaponry an enemy might deploy, according to media reports. The Phalcon system will be mounted on modified Russian-built Il-76 aircraft.

"The delivery of the first radar system will take place in 44 months," the Indian spokesman said.
