Magazine Names Chris Rock Funniest Man

NEW YORK — He's not on television regularly anymore, but Entertainment Weekly (search) has judged Chris Rock (search) to be the funniest man in America.

The 38-year-old comedian is now on a stand-up concert tour, which will culminate in an HBO special.

"Watching Rock in 2004 — 21 years into his comedy career — is like watching a great prize-fighter in peak condition," the magazine said.

Comedy Central's Jon Stewart (search) was second on Entertainment Weekly's list of the 25 funniest Americans, and Will Ferrell came in third.

Larry David, Dave Chappelle, Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Murray, Jim Carrey and Jack Black also were praised by the magazine.

And here's a Top 10 list David Letterman isn't going to like: He was No. 11. Of course, it might make him feel better to know Jay Leno wasn't mentioned at all.

I don't think he is #1

I almost laughed my self to death when I saw the stand up he had about gun controle. He was of course against it. What was really needed was bullet contole. Each bullet should cost $5000.

Also the one about the lack of air-conditioners in black super markets was very funny.

And and, the one about were he once tried to join the KKK. Hilarious.

Typical. Who voted on that?
I like Chris Rock, but he's not the funniest. I'd vote Jim Carrey as funnier than Rock any day of the week.

Letterman No. 11 but Leno doesn't even make the list? Bullsh*t.

They don't like Leno because of the whole Arnold thing (IMHO). Pricks.

Peter Kay, Ricky Gervais, Billy Connolly and Ben Elton just some of the many I think are better.

Hmmm. It's a little contradictory then isn't it. I say we boycott that magazine until they get their sh*t together. :P

Both. It's just one big conspiracy. Humor is just a way to enslave the population.

Note: this diatribe is not relating to just American comedians.

The problem with most comedians is they don't have any character depth to them, it's alot boring observational humor with some battle of the ***'s nonsense thrown in.

Billy Connolly to my mind is one the last greats, because he is a unique individual that has "lived" life, educated himself and traveled the world.
All this gives his tales a sense of three-dimensional perspective as opposed to some f*ck nose talking about his new joggers.
