I'm wondering if anyone has any of the highly-sought-after "Stress Cards" that apparently exist that exempt you from discipline or getting smoked. I haven't seen any, and I'm curious if anyone has any they'd be willing to sell for a small profit, or if anyone has a picture of one they could post since I can't seem to find them anywhere. I'm starting to doubt their existance.

I'm also interested if anyone has any MILES Casualty Cards, the ones given to "casualties" during MILES exercises. I think it's form GTA 8 11 5?

I hope this isn't too far off topic, since it is theoretically "equipment/gear". If so, I apologise.

Thanks

I've never seen a "stress card" either, nor known anyone who was issued one. Makes you wonder.

I do have some casualty cards somewhere, but I would have to dig them up. I'll PM you if I find them.

If you type it into google, you get a bunch of things saying they don't exist.

My understanding of "stress cards" is that they are those plastic cards (like credit cards) with the temperature-sensitive square in the middle. You put your thumb on it for about twenty seconds and based on the color that the square turned, you could tell how "stressed" you were according to the color guide on the card itself. I've gotten one or two during my time in (NOT during Basic) but we never really used them for their intended purpose. It was more like a novelty, as in, "Hey look mine turned blue!" "Hey look mine turned green!" I don't think it was intended as a "get out of jail free" card but along with the story provided in the Snopes.com link, I'm guessing the whole thing morphed into this "cream puff Army" thing now.

...Of course, the "kinder, gentler" Basic Training ("Push ups on knees!" "No more yelling!") was the cover story of last week's Army Times.

Wow, I just read this:
http://www.snopes.com/military/stress.htm
Now I'm confused, because I have personally seen a stress card, and it was a white plastic card with a thumbprint thing with soem colored boxes in the middle and a lot of writing on the back. Now, I'm wondering if that was what I was told it was as I didn't look at it carefully at the time. One of my older NCOs pulled it out and told me he'd taken it off a kid who flashed it on him right after getting in from AIT. Makes me wonder what the heck it really was, then.

As for the "death" cards to use with MILES, heck, I had decks of the things for years, it never occured to me someone would actually want one! I pulled out all the "killed in action" cards and took them with me to JRTC, but turns out, they don't send the leadership back to the "dead pool" at the barracks area if you get waxed. So it did no good for me.

Thanks for the responses. Seems the links say the cards don't exist, yet vets on here say they've seen em'. Are they third-party manufacture, as in someone, say Company A manufactured the cards for soldiers as a sort of novelty?

I was thinking of using the casualty cards in future training exercises. They would come in handy, as when we do casualty evac stuff, people don't always know WTF to be injured for.

This thread was inspired when I found this big card inside an old MILES training guide last night:

Anyone got a scanner or picture of the stress cards?

Look at the date on the web site. Its from 2002. ALOT has changed in the past 4 years.

I have a KIA card from my MOUT excercises. I always wound up dead because I'm usually pointman. :-(

Ain't that a bitch. They should just give you a red sharpie, which might I add, is a fun little piece of equipment to have in the field at night. :)

Some things have changed, some things haven't. Are you saying you've seen one?

PS: Is that a EUSA combat patch? WTF?

Whats EUSA?

EUSA = Eighth United States Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Eighth_Army), (based in Korea); the combat patch you seem to be wearing on your uniform in your profile pic.

...Or is that a Resident Evil thing?

I posted that first, but things might have changed now, but the website linked is referring to things in the past, when the supposed "stress cards" were handed out, so I'd say that even though the link is from 2002, it has no bearing on the issue, as if they were given out or not, it was long before 2002 anyway...
