After a 2-day operation carried out by Russian special forces in the Stavropol region, all 4 members of the gang (which was originally believed to count up to 8 gangsters) were liquidated by the Russian armed forces and the FSB. Army roadblocks were put up to enforce a blockade along all roads in the Georgiev area of Stavropol, and both Russian army and FSB personnel proceeeded with a night search operation to comb the area and locate where the bandits might have been hiding. However by now nobody is offering any resistance anymore.
According to Vladimir Lozhnikov, the criminal group, which had penetrated the territory of the Stavropol district with the goal of committing terrorist acts, has been destroyed.
Russian authorities are proceeding with actions directed at the determination of those who commissioned the crime, as well as those who assisted the gang and acted as accomplices. The group consisted in 4 individuals, all of whom have been eliminated. Their weapons have been taken into custody, and explosive devices were found in their cars. Investigators are certain that the gang was getting ready to perpetrate a terrorist act.
Vladimir Lozhnikov: " Is is likely that the first crime has been perpetrated in area of the Mineralovod district, and they have been detained in the area of Georgiev,it is possible to assume that the objective of their act of terrorism was one of cities within the Stavropol territory. And probably Stavropol itself". According to preliminary information, the identities of the bandits have been established. Probably these were not simple couriers, but rather the executors of terrorist acts, whose traces consequently lead back to Chechnya.
