Looks sexy, but isn't .50 a bit over-the-top?

Check out the S&W 500 S&W,,, it makes the 50 GI look like a pop gun...
The 500 S&W comes with a Towing package.
BTW that is nice looking pistol, let us know who she shoots...

Yes, I guess a lil' ......I just wanted a good handgun with a good punch, at first I was looking to get a .45 but then I found this bad boy and I was like.....I gotta have it !

I have seen that before, and it really is very nice.
You will pay a fortune for the ammo mind.

I've fired the S&W 500. It's nuts. Ammo was like $3 a bullet or something crazy like that.
That .50 cal sure looks great. I'd love to see a comparison to .45 ACP.

That's not a handgun, it's a handcanon!

 The slug probably drops like a led weight after it comes out of the barrel. Oh waight it is a led weight.

It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison of the 50GI with the Desert Eagle in 50AE.

Hmmmm, would be interesting to see the .50 GI cartridge performance and terminal ballistics - strange mix of curiousity peaking from behind a mound of skeptisism... But at least there is a .45 ACP conversion kit is available so it's not that risky of a venture.
Let us know how that beastie shoots... ummm... plows :D

muhahahahahaha roflwas it a typing error? p-)

Guns and Ammo did a write up and comparison on the .50GI and the .45 ACP about a year ago. The .50 GI is not that big, in fact, I believe it is the same, or within 1mm of the overall length of the .45 depending on what the grain of the round being loaded is. He's a pic from GI.

If you don't know how to reload... learn -- or you will have to take out loans and your home equity just to shoot that damn thing often.
btw -- I'd rather have 2 1911's with a decent custom job instead of 1 .50gi 1911
This thing is almost 3 grand --- wow

Pretty cool, although a .50 caliber bullet doesn't seem necessary for it to be effective.

Getting a .50GI 1911 is silly. I mean, if your goal is to own big guns that have, ultimately, no practical or tactical purpose, that's cool. Collect away. I am all for more guns....and more guns.
Just don't try to justify purchasing this gun as anything more than JUST a gimmick and safe queen.
It's like getting the .454 Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 and claiming its a good replacement for the .357 Mag. Hell, there are more guns chambered in .454 Casull so the ammo might even be a little bit cheaper...at a buck a round.

Durandel, I agree with you. I almost bought a Lever action inn 454 casul. I could have shot 45 colt in it. After that dawned on me, hey I would have to option to shoot fun rounds or hurt myself.
edited to add, My 357, I shoot mosty 38Spec in them, fun plinking round and I ilke a bigger frame hand gun..

You know what, I was looking through one of my many copies of SGN this morning while on my throne, and came across a copy from about this time last year that had the .50GI model 1911 in it. Very cool, and I wouldn't mind shooting it to say I had, but not my cup of tea as far as a purchase.

Yeah, it's one of those guns to add to the little black book of "I shot it guns" but that's about it.

Just buy a Corvette, put on some gold chains and cruise by the local high school playing Kashmir by Led Zepplin.......

Im not getting it for any practical or tactical purpose.....is just something that I came across and fell in love with ! I wanted a big handgun for a while, and I can call this one a "hand-cannon".....plus is a nice addition to my collection !
and it would def NOT be a "safe Queen" .....it will get as much use as I can spend on the range .

Must be nice having 3K to toss at a gun that is not a Match grade or NFA.
Plus all that 15.00 USD a box ammo...of 20 rnds.

why not both... and add a few more..
Funny thing it is this guys money and his choice. Depending on what a person wants. He earned his mony if he want to spend in a way that makes him happy why not.
I would like shoot that pistol, who knows after doing so, I may crave one. Only big problems I know about guns are, 1) so many guns, 2) so little time, 3) not enough money.
wanted to add hey what about these:

yes, and both are Winchesters the other is a P17. 1917 Military in 30-06.
They had a 10 g too, but it was a shorter hull than current. The 12, is the same as today. Fun to shoot. It looks better as a photo then real life. I have been thinking of restoring it, but it is great as a boat anchor.

Awesome man.
I own one. I'll admit I do not shoot it. No. 6### in a fairly limited series...
A great gun. I'll take some better detail photos and post them after Apple lets me link again. That bowling ball video sent me over my monthly limit by 49 GB.
Hehehe...
