thinking about getting the harris lightweight 3-9" for my Mossberg ATR, just for range use mostly, wouldnt be any use hunting

was wondering if any of you guys have these or have used them before, if so how do they hold up? and is it worth the 65$?

I have one for my AR. they are really well made and sturdy.

I have a couple, they seem well made. My problem is that I find bipods, not very useful. They seem to have a very limited application. So my bipods just set on a counter. If you setting in a fixed postion and you have a small zone of fire, ok.. But hunting.. they get in the way when you have to turn around, and there are shooting positions hat work much better than using a bipod. More junk to carry.

They're pretty cool. Mine rusted pretty quickly, albeit it was on my deergun and went two days in the wet without being tended to. It's rock solid. Get the pivoting/rotation version if you can spare the money, it is a great feature.

i only plan on using it at the range, on a benchrest, so i dont really think the pivoting one is needed.

yeah Hollis thats my problem, i dont think ill be needing it as much but considering i use my rifle at the range more than i do in the field, im not sure

I have a rest so a bipod is unnecessary at the range. I know som guys love them. They would not have a rifle without one. I am more of a minimalist.. Keeping it simple.

Harris is good bipod but an old design for the range.

the legs don't lock, so you have to place it with the legs forward so when you go ****e, your bi-pod legs don't fold back.

the finsih is not as durable so it can rust in a short period.

depends on your application, there are better alternative.

I've got a Winchester M70 varmint special in .22-250 with a Harris Bipod. It makes for a nice ****e shooting platform, but sometimes the added weight is annoying.

Check out GG&G bipods...far better than Harris imo.

True, GG&G bipods are pretty good but much more expensive ....and for the range that is all he wants to use, the Harris Bipod is excellent, I have 2 myself and I also have the GG&G that retails for $167.00 ......

I've used Harris bi-pods for about 20 yrs on several rifles. As bi-pods go, they are very good, but make sure you get the model which allows a degree of movement in the rifle, as some have fixed mounts.

I wouldn't say that any bi-pod is the ideal solution as I'm just as happy with a steady rest for a long shot, and often find that I can re-acquire the sight picture faster on a rest than with a bi-pod - but rest assured if you need a robust, well made and lightweight bi-pod then Harris will fulfil your needs.

I haven't compared alternatives in recent years and would guess that there are very probably better alternative out there - shop around before making a final decision.

Harris is excellent.

So are my 24.95 knock-offs. :) Which do the exact same thing.

Either choice is fine.

Like Delta said, get the ones that allow a little play. I have both. Though, honestly, if you are just going to be doing ****e and bench rest shooting at the range, it becomes a little less important since you will most likely be shooting from a prepared position/flat.

I have had an Outers(Harris Copy) bipod on my 10/22 for a couple of years now, while $10 cheaper, I think next go around I will get another Harris.
I picked my Harris up on the EE on ARFcom and I couldn't be happier, it came with an ARMs quick release mount and it currently resides on my Dissy.
It's the fixed model not the swivel version though and it is 6-9 not 3-9?
