the uzi was for more than 40 years the standard smg of the bundeswehr
the unit shown in the video is the Panzergrenadier Lehr Bataillon 351 (now Jägerlehrbataillon 353) basewd in Hammelburg
All Panzergrenadiere ( mech Inf) have SMG AND AssaultRifles as ordonance weapons
the use this one they need.
the uzi will be replaced by mp7 til 2010

man, I really like to see more of these Bundeswehr Lehrvideos. Brings back a lot of memory. Looking at those uniforms and equipment tody makes those soldiers look like their from another era.

Not so much ironic but politics - an Israeli weapon was deliberatly chosen to equip the new German army as a symbol of friendship.
