How come there are no seatbelts on busses?

Because you would have to buckle yourself in and buckle yourself out, and probably miss your stop in the process.

Because people who drive in a bus are not worth the effort.

If they were important they would drive a car.

Because the bus drivers unambitious, overweight corpse will cushion the impact.

There are no seatbelts on the bus because God hates public transportation.

I think it has to do with the mass of the bus. If you think about it, most car accidents are car on car action. And most places where there are buses, there aren't usually any vehicles that are larger.
Anyway, if there was an accident with the bus, it would probably be with a smaller car and the bus would win.

Nah, it just seems that way since they're too poor to afford roofs for their buses. ;-)

everyone wonders why around here, too. none on school buses, or transit buses, etc. i've heard it's because it would be more dangerous with them. but i really don't know one way or the other.

I've seen footage of a camera in an American schoolbus once (I don't know why they have camera's in schoolbusses) where the bus drove into a ditch and rolled over. The kids were alive, but lost their ability to reproduce. That's why.

There are seatbelts on busses, you should ride more busses.

No seatbelts on the school busses I used to ride in for field trips, or the city bus system now.

I think school bus seats are padded in such a way to reduce injury during frontal impact. If it's anything other than a head-on collision though, your SOL.

Cause when a car hits the bus, people on board are usually "What was that noise?" Meanwhile, the Honda Civic's frontend is crumpled up like a napkin.

because of lawyers.

not kidding.
if something happens on a schoolbus, someone sues, and the video evidence proves it one way or the other.

Busses can flip to the side. That's the main reason for deadly accidents. You hear that every summer. Or run into the end of a sudden traffic jam. And don't think the front rows survive that especially with the trucks that are usually in the same lane as the busses (at least here).

EU logotype for seatbelt on a bus

In May 2006, a new Directive (Directive 2003/20/EC) will come into force that extends the obligatory use of seat belts to occupants of all motor vehicles, including trucks and coaches. However, there is an exemption for urban buses which are defined as having designated standing spaces

City buses here have none but intercity/rural and school buses will have to soon enough due to a crash last year that killed 5 schoolgirls.
