Does anyone know how to make their hood look like this? I have tried and it never looks right. Is there a specific technique?

As far as I know the Pommie issue smock is quite similiar to or the same as ours(NZ).
IF that's the case, it's actually pretty self-evident.
Just roll it under and button it up.

There is in the more recent models. There wasn't in the older ones. You also need an arctic windproof (with wired hood, with the wire still in) not an SAS smock - the hoods are different.

You're right :-) The hoods are different.
There's something I cut short.
I think that's new issued one.

Actually, I've not seen yet another smock models had rolled hood like that.

hold the hood by the crown first and fold the brim down to the nape of the neck. once it is flat roll it outwards!
FFS what do you do on stag if you arent experimenting with the hundred ways to roll your smock, tighten your cuffs. sort your twisties. shape your beret, and fiddle with your webbing straps.

I always wondered the same thing. Never thought about it being the wired hood. No wonder I could never figure it out!
I ended up sewing an old DPM rank slide(that epaulet type thing on the front of jackets where you put your rank) on the outside of the smock under the hood, and a button on the inside, just above the neck ticket. Just roll up the hood and button the slide. Works like a charm.

Flick the neck drawcord back over your head and cinch it tight then tuck it though the loop ocnveniently placed externally in hte neap of the neck!
Poofs, you shouldnt need (or wear) the hood anyway!

Mine has 2 ties coming out of the base of the neck on the back. I have no idea what to do with them, I leave the hood down.

Roll the hood and then use the two (actually one) ties and the hanging loop inside the back of the neck to secure it.

I tried that but the hanging thing is too low down so it gets pulled up. Might get the old housewife out and sew a new one on. Or just leave the damn hood down.

I got my smock for £5 off ebay, took me an entire bottle of febreeze to get the ciggy smell out. Rip stop jackets = major chaffage :(

- eh ? We had DS who had a bee in his bonnet about hoods - no hoods to worn up while awake. Soft hats and a face so cammed up you couldnt recognise each other in daylight, never mind the dark. He reckoned that a hood interfered with your peripheral vision and affected your hearing. Three bananas and a crown said we'd didnt argue.

I wouldn't wear the hood while patrolling, but I would on top of Fan Fawr in February!
What's wrong with leaving it hanging?
(if you must roll it up, refer to Royal's post)

Wont respond - See Oldsoaks post
I wasnt going to argue with a winged and daggered 29 Commando WO2.
Ive sat in cold places often enough and agree that a Soft hat is far superior to any hood.

It's when the wings and dagger are together that you want to listen sonny-jim... ( ;) )
