Who are these guys? DSS????

Most of them look like DSS- Diplomatic Security Service, which is part of the state department. They provide security for diplomats and embassies.

Some may also be US Marines or private security contractors as well.

They are DSS. They are part of the State Depatment's Mobile Security Team.

Except for 20, 21, 27

It looks like one of the French Embassy security personnel is carrying a Sig Sauer M550 with an M203 grenade launcher. First time I saw such a combo.

I thought they were DSS.

Are All DSS agents all Ex military? or are they recruited and trained from scratch. If anyone knows where i could find more info, and or pics of the DSS please post them. Thanx.

All DSS are not former Military. Most of the Mobile Security Team is, though.

They are trained from scratch. They spend six months of training with an orientation period in Washington, DC, followed by basic and specialized training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia.

There are addition schools they can go to while part of DS.

Well they look DSS to me, but guys who wear tight shirts to make their muscles look bigger deserve little respect from me...

I served with two of them in Afghanistan and have know one for 15 years. They're DSS out of D.C.

They are members of the Mobile Security Division (MSD) of the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). DSS Speical Agents are not all former military, but like any other federal LEO, there are a number of ex-military guys. MSD has a higher ratio of ex-military guys in it, but they are not all former military, and they are especially not all SF either.

MSD deploys all over the world on an as-needed basis. They serve a number of functions, assisting with the SECSTATE detail in high risk areas. They also deploy to hotspots (Haiti) where there is an increased threat level.
