If it's not a fake two hypothesis,
1. took from a french SF team captured by iraqies in 1990 ( 3 men of the 13th RDP severely mistreated by their iraqies interrogators)
2. gift from GIAT Industries to saddam ( good customer in the 80' ;-)

Not to hijack this thread but could you post/pm me some more info about this incident? I never realized that French forces were captured during the first Gulf War.

During GW1, a french recon team was caught behind Iraki lines just before the beginning of the hostilities if my memory is good. I'm not sure they were from 13éme RDP, they were sure SF.
Maybe the FAMAS is coming from here, who knows.
But I read somewhere that one of saddam's son was a big collector of firearms.
They even found AUGs, MP5K, Mausers and so....
Even under embargo, they were still able to buy weapons.
