Someone said "War is hell" and if today's videos show you anything its that things can change in an instant. I've never been in combat but seeing these men and woman put themselvs on the line for us really fills me with pride and I think I would go in to combat with any of them.

I still have a few years of reserves left and I did my time in Ballad Iraq when I was active duty. I'm pretty sure you cant reenlist as a different branch anyway.
At least, i'm pretty sure I cant.

Wow great vids...I noticed that right after they dragged that animal, Arabic sounded over the dialog...maybe mosques calling "insurgents" to battle b/c right after you hear that, gunfire starts...

I've heard story after story about soldiers hearing the call to prayer and soon after being attacked. Sometimes they will actually hear the words "Jihad" in there too.

When I first watched that video I thought the soldiers blew the animal up, but I think it was the IED inside being detonated as part of the attack.
EDIT: Hey, I just figured out how to convert FLV files to useable media files like AVI or MPEG. PM if you want in on this info.

I was wondering who would catch that first. woot
It's not my quote though, it was in the discription of the video. I'm sure they were quoting the movie since thats the first thing I thought when I read it.
No, It was just a call for "prayer".

Actually there is precedence to think it might have been the call to prayer that launched the attack. It's happened before many times. Do you think it’s a coincidence every time?

Do you know how many times a day they have to pray? Might be.

Who knows...the first time I heard of the mosques being used to organize an attack was when we where fighting Al Sadr...
I just know that if I was over there that whenever I heard that I would be alert

Why can't you reenlist into a different branch? You said you were on active duty so I am sure you are aware that there are people who do a couple years in one service and then switch to another. Is there some rule about switching while in IRR(I'm assuming that by reserves you meant IRR) that precludes you from doing so?
If not, come join the party. Or, reenlist in your current branch, either way it's all good.
I'm not trying to call you out or say you're full of BS or anything, I'm just curious if there is some rule against it that I'm not aware of, because that would just be retarded.

I didnt think I was able to do that while I still have 2 years of reserve duty. We had a couple ex navy folks in my CAT, so I know you can go to different branches at some point. I just figured it would have to be when my USAF contract is up.

Hmmm you broach a good question. I did 4 years in the Marines and just have started the process to join the NG.
I know that if you go from Marines to any other service you don't have to do boots and don't lose rank.
However I have heard that if you go from any other service to Marines you lose rank and have to do boots.
I was very surprised when the NG recruiter told me that since I'm former USMC I have a choice to do 4 weeks of boots or not if I didn't want to...kinda cheesy if you ask me....no disrespect to any NG's on this forum

Well you would have to finish your contract first. But don't quote me, talk to a recruiter.

Technically, you're right. As long as you're in IRR, you're good to go.
You can't re-enlist to another branch. You have to be discharged from the branch you're in and enlist in the other. If you're a Marine, you don't have to do basic when you switch services. Depending on your age and rank you do have to go to boot camp if you're coming from another service to the Corps.

What if you are an Army Ranger or Green Beret? lol, I don't know why someone would switch branch as a Green Beret, but still

Stranger things have happened.
I'm sure consideration would be taken in circustances like that. Someone told me about some SEAL that left the Navy for the Army (SOF) so he could get commissioned as an officer. Might be fact, might be fiction.
There is a retire Marine Corps Maj or LtCol that was a Navy Corpsman with 1st and 3rd Recon during Viet Nam that switched services (joined the Marines) as an officer after finishing college. Don't remember his name, but I'm sure someone here may know who I'm talking about.

They werent. That is one of our main tactics is to overwelm the enemy with firepower. Its a rule of combat that whoever is throwing those most lead wins the fight. At least I think it is.

Taking Droneteks sig image as reference, I know in a firefight if I had to choose an M16 over a minigun? I'd take the minigun, purely for lead density :) Ammo waste be damned... that's what defense budgets are for.

That may be the Army policy but definately not the Marines.
Aimed shots are more effective than spray & pray.
Defense budgets are not bottomless, the reason why the M16A2 & A4 have the burst selector is to prevent soldiers from waiting ammo.

Leave the full auto up to crew served weapons.
I've fired full auto and semi and burst and found that I'm more accurate w/ semi than burst or full auto.
Simply b/c you don't have the mental idea of simply putting rounds down range, you are taking each shot at a specific target...not saturation.
There's a great vid on youtube if I could find it of an insurgent running into the middle of street and spraying a RPK at Marines...you can guess what happened next. Bad day for the bad guy
