According to the february 2004 issue of RAIDS (#213), the UK MoD will soon put the following hardware on the market after withdrawing it from the British armed forces:
-about 20 Royal Navy Harrier FA2
-an unspecified number of almost brand new AS90 155mm SP howitzers
-60 BV 206s
-11 Gazelle helos
-5 Sea Kings
-11 Jetstreams
-an unspecified number of Starburst SAMs systems
Anybody heard anything about that ?

I think the RAF has met an unexpected series of problems with its new C130J (mostly engines I think) so they had to rely more on their "old" Herks; so maybe they are not in a hurry to get rid of them.

but the yanks are giving us money to buy British C130s or so I read on this forum cause the British C130s are in better shape then the US ones.

Any idea on how many AS90 the RA intends to keep? I think initially they had purchased 179 systems but how many will be axed?
In France, the "future" 155 mm arty should be split between 94 modernized AUF1 tracked SP howitzers and 72 truck-borne (not towed) CAESAR systems that have just been ordered after very successful trials in France and in the USA.

I managed to catch Mr Hoon (wanker) on the politics show on Sunday, and he was trying to put his case up for this new system to eliminate "the fog of war". And the guy was asking him, "wouldn't it be better to equip the troops first, make sure they get their desert clothing, weapons, sufficient ammunition, and body armour" Hoons reply was "They are getting their new equipment"
Well if there's any truth in what he said, too bloody late you stupid basterd, it's taken you a long time to realise it.
Does anyone know approximatly how much it would cost to equip the troops properly compared to how much projects like the Euro fighter cost?
