BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A powerful explosion, apparently from a car bomb, went off in the Karrada district of central Baghdad Wednesday, virtually destroying the Mount Lebanon Hotel and damaging a number of houses and offices nearby.

Iraqi police and coalition soldiers cordoned off the area. U.S. soldiers from the nearby "Green Zone" attempted to go into the area to rescue victims but were driven back by angry Iraqis.

Well acording to CNN they were pushed back at first by outraged Iraqi civilians, but a short time later they were welcomed for their assistance.

you have to understand why the pushed the US forces in the first place. They feel its because of the US that these bombings are taking place.

28 Dead.

They said it was a 1000LB car bomb.

The soldiers that were pushed back were 2 soldiers removing bodys from the wreckage. A simple glance at the current (and immediately past) events would reflect the fact that the military and police have been evacuating people and performing triage.

but hey why let common sense and reality affect one's agenda.

I never said they were loved or hated...I simply stated that US forces arrived shortly on the scene in HMMWVs and Bradleys and arrived in further mass since.
