Ok, so I'm minding my own business in Windows, keeping it safe, secure, whatever. I wanted to update the drivers for my mobo chipset. So I go ahead and do that, and everything seems fine. So I finally turn off my computer and start it back up. Lo and behold, I can't start up windows. A file is missing or corrupt. Hmmmmm...

So I boot off another hard drive. I thought I could just replace the corrupt file with a clean one. I go to the Windows directory on the previous hard drive. Hmmmm... It's not there. Strange.

So, my entire Windows directory was wiped out. Fantastic. At least I have a nice debian GNU/Linux partition which is safe and sound. :)

Windows is such a bitch sometimes. Looks like I'll need to reinstall all my drivers after a fresh install of windows. Yet again.

When Linux takes over microsoft, we'll see who's laughing.

man, linux is sweet. however, my brother did most of the configuring remotely across country :) so that was nice. but i still don't have audio support.

once i have audio support, i'm moving to linux completely, unless there is a game that i must absolutely play and it's only available in windows.

If ive had a dollar for every windows re-install ive had...

Linux works (only had a chance to play with a boot-able cd version which was a computer "administration" tool called Knopix), but i preffer to run xp on my beotch. and why are you calling for an activation key everytime?

First: Why use the legal version?

Second: Most of the time when Windows screws up it's the USERS fault. I've got 3 computers running in the house here. 1 run by me, the others by my brother and mother. For some reason they're computers ALWAYS get screwed up, while mine always remains in perfect condition...
It's the same at a friends place; as soon as other people get on his computer, things start going downhill.

So to summarize it: it's all your fault. :P

Try knoppix from knoppix.net, you will probably need to instal nvdia or radeon acceleration card driver by your own, but this is easy..Sound card and many other externals devices are recognised automaticaly, it has all needed applications(open office, gimp, compilators, video/audio players etc). Trying it don't need installation on hd, it runs nicley only from cd, but is little slower than ran after instalation hd. When running from cd just rememeber about passsing to kerenel dma directive and your beloved screen resolution with optimal for yor monitor v and h sync values...ie
"knoppix dma lang=us screen=1600x1200 vsync=85 hsync106.25"
one cd of clear plessure, its possibly not super secure system but you aren't cia agent?

BTW: knoppix is Debian under cover...so debs works here perfectly

i bought the OEM version, so you can supposedly reinstall 5 times or something. after that, it gets suspicious, so they require that you call them in person and explain your situation. i know, it's weird, but you get what you pay for.

oh well. the install went nicely. now i just have to configure everything. again. :cantbeli:

OEM has a full install disk. it's the exact same thing as retail, except with the key thing. OEM versions are not allowed to move to another computer while retail versions can.

I'm with Haiw here. I have the same experiences, my mum's computer always get screwed up by her and my brother and about once a month I have to sort it out, same with my girlfriend's computer. On the other hand my computer always runs fine and I just reinstall windows about every six months just to keep it running sweet, same with my mate ... I try and keep my girlfriend away from my computer ... :P
