Yes...I learned some things I had not known. My own experience and attitude toward the bayonet was one of revulsion. I could never imagine myself using it one on one...even in desperation. I always considered the enemy to be armed with plenty of fire arms and ammo and made certain I was as well equipped if not more so. I always figured if it came down to just me and my bayonet against a well equipped modern enemy...I was pretty much done for. However, I was determined to never surrender, no matter what. I was well prepared to die rather than give in to such a brutal enemy as the NVA...I had seen the results of allied soldiers surrendering or otherwise being taken alive..they were horribly tortured to death and mutilated in every instance and the bodies left in various poses to try to demorlaize us. I always kept extra ammo...for just such a moment when the command might come, "Fix bayonets."

Thanks for the very interesting post...MM
