A US soldier stands guard during morning patrol in the streets of Kabul, 25 May 2006. Up to 3,000 people have fled their homes in southern Afghanistan because of heavy fighting between Taliban and security forces, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said. There have been fierce clashes west of southern Kandahar city for weeks, with three major encounters in the Panjwayi district including a battle that started 21 May and left around 100 people dead, most of them rebels. At least 16 of the dead were civilians, with coalition and Afghan officials saying Taliban had forced their way into locals' homes during the encounter, effectively using them as human shields. They're not SAS they are 4RAR, which although a special ops unit is not quite as secret. The ADF doesn't generally publish the faces of SAS operators but all official 4RAR pics show faces.

Key observation to make, note the bbl notch for the M203 (http://www.motionpicturearmourer.com/ColtM4-M203-NSN.jpg) on the M4.
You won't see that on Diemaco's (http://www.geocities.com/dkhuntercorp/c8m203.gif).

hah hah, fine, true enough, ^_^

I just can't imagine why a country would buy the damn thing all by it's lonesome, ^^;;

It's not a bad optic, but I'm sure they could find some that was lighter and more securely tightened to the gun.

he219 ,

I think he's got a Kifaru E&E pack on his back
over some sort of Molle vest, maybe a CIRAS as some of his buds have those aswell.
oakley boots in tan
and camo sprayed Molle pouches of some sort.
prolly a gas mask pouch too,
and some sort of accurised m16/m4 smth.

ditto that

nice pics today guys

so do the aussie commandos use the diemacos or do they use american made m4's

The Aussies use a M4 with a Elcan scope that's the confusion because it's looks like a Diemaco with a Elcan sight.

ID the kit ..

It's some sort of accurised M16. Possibly an SPR or SAM-R type rifle. I've seen a pic of the SASR in Iraq or A-stan with this same rifle.

They also have Aimpoints, EOTechs, ACOGs.....

This debate has been going on since those pics of SASR/4RAR at that Iraqi airbase were released way back during Operation Falconer (the ones above).

AS far as I know, the Aussies are using Diemaco's. Known now as Colt Canada. However, I did have the chance to chat with an Aussie SBS(I believe? ) and he claimed that he was using a Bushmaster M4.

Well he was either a bulls_hitter or having a lend of you. Our SB or NSW equivilant are the Clearance Diver Teams (CDTs). And they, like Army SF, use Colt M4s. No Diemaco like UK SF. Some SOCOMD units do use Bushmaster SPRs (X-15s IIRC?), alongside SR-25s, which is what may have confused you.

May seem like a stupid question, but what purpose does the Cessna have for the military, recon....? What NATO country uses this aircraft....?

The fact that they use Elcans on alot of their firearms doesn't help to make it much clearer either, as most other countries using Elcan scopes are also using Diemacos. Netherlands, Denmark, Canada and Norway.

Chops,
No offence to soldiers, but they usually aren't the type to remember all the specifics about what they're issued. It works, they use it.. Perhaps he was unsure of what he had or he could have been pulling my pisser.

Maybe in your Army mate but our SF and CDTs are pretty switched on kit-wise. He'd have to be reasonably switched on to even know Diemaco as we dont issue them but the Brits do.
