Catch him or kill him? What do you think will evoke the biggest response out of terrorist sleepers? A confirmation of a martyred Osama or images of US SF checking him for fleas on CNN? Just being facetious of course. But what do you think it will do to the pace of War on Terror, and the Al queda’s war on the infidels?

His killing or capture is a tactical question only a few people can answer. Either way that's a ton of bricks taken off the U.S. govt.

Musharraf: 'High-value' al Qaeda target surrounded in Pakistan
Pakistan army in new al Qaeda pushThursday, March 18, 2004 Posted: 1905 GMT (0305 HKT)
Officials believe Ayman al-Zawahiri, who is Osama bin Laden's deputy, is surrounded in a standoff with Pakistani troops, according to news services.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistani forces have surrounded what may be a "high-value" al Qaeda target in Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan, President Pervez Musharraf told CNN.
"We feel that there may be a high-value target," Musharraf told CNN. "I can't say who."
The Associated Press and ******* reported that officials believe the surrounded figure is Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri. The AP attributed its report to three anonymous Pakistani officials.
Musharraf said the ferociousness of the surrounded fighters indicates that they are protecting someone particularly significant.
The military asked locals to leave and is flying helicopters overhead, "pounding" the area with artillery, he said.
U.S. and Pakistani officials have said they believe bin Laden probably is in Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan.
Word of the standoff comes after Pakistan announced it has launched a fresh offensive against suspected militants near the Afghan border.
Hundreds of Pakistani troops backed by heavy artillery and helicopter gunships raided homes in the nation's tribal region of South Waziristan, two days after a fierce assault in the same area left dozens dead.
On Tuesday, at least 39 people were killed in a raid on suspected Taliban and al Qaeda militants in a fortress-like compound in Kaloosha, close to the border.
Fifteen soldiers died, while Pakistani forces killed 24 suspects, most of them foreign fighters, military officials said. (Full story)
Intelligence officers are also questioning 18 people captured during the raids.
In retaliation, angry tribesmen torched more than a dozen military vehicles -- some loaded with ammunition -- on Tuesday and Wednesday.
'Finish the terrorists'
Pakistani Information Minister Shiekh Rashid Ahmed told CNN on Thursday that "for the first time in the history, Pakistani forces have entered there to finish the terrorists."
Capture him, show it to the whole world on tv. Then trial him and let him rot in he cell for the rest of his life. As an example to anyone who dares to attack our western values and way of live.

Hope the standoff turns out alright.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the 5th Group & 160th men who were spending time listening to the President earlier, have guys from their units involved.

Well, I could think of some pretty colorful things I would like to see done to Osama.. but that isn't what I was getting at.
What do you think the reaction will be for catching him? Who will get custody of him? What if he is killed.. will there be a different reaction?
I don't think there will be much of an intelligence need for him.. if he is smart.. he would have taken himself out of the loop a long time ago. But capturing him and finding out where he IS responsible will help give a little closure in the US.
Will it be enough to get George W. another term? Will this change the pace of terror on the US or in the middle east?
I think there will be a reaction. Al queda will do something to show that they are still alive and kicking. If Osama is killed, they will avenge their martyr and again send a message. The biggest message would be targeted at the presidential campaign in the US.

Assuming Al Queda is anything like the Palestinians....if you capture him or kill him will not change whether or not there will be more attacks in retaliation. Possibily more if he is killed, but either way, it's going to be bad.
Capturing him will be a major moral boost to the allied countries. A sign that all their sacrifices and the 2+ year long war in Afghanistan was not in vein. You might very well see a renewed commitment in this country and others to presue terrorists. If we catch bin Laden, it shows that no matter where they go or how they hide, they are still f*cked.
Besides...we'll probably execute him after we force feed him some sausage anyways. Better to parade him around in shame first.
PS- this isn't a political commentary, but an observation. If we get "him", Bush's approval rating will likely sky-rocket. It did when we captured Saddam, and many did not even want to be in Iraq anyways. I doubt there is ONE American who wouldn't approve of Bush if he can bring bin Laden to justice. Again...just an observation.

I second that Argyll, even though it's not my place to.
I'm not sure what will happen when he's caught or killed but I would not be surprised if we see a reaction from terrorists in some form of strike whether he is killed or captured, then again maybe they'll just stick to the plans that have obviously been formulated a while back.
Oh yeah, and by the way, if you want to talk what's going on militarily, with this, now, you can use this thread http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10603 which is actually about that topic rather than this thread which is about "Catch him or kill him?".

To answer the question though...
Although I would like to see this scumbag die of a slow, painful death...
It might be better to lock him up and he will slowly be forgotten like the many tyrants in the past few decades we have obtained rather than executing him and possibly igniting an additional bunch of terrorist turds.
Maybe throw him in a cell and allow a few people to get a free punch each day. :bash:

Catch Osama and then throw him into a Cage and then put the cage somewhere in NYC where everyone can watch him in there.
And he should shower once the day in pig-blood.

I think they should put him in front of the twin towers sight so he can watch us rebuild what he knocked down.
