My first post!
Just wondered if anyone had any info on the tavor, and when it is being fielded etc. All the info i can find is pre 2003. Sorry if this is an old topic!
Thanks

Dear Adam,

Welcome to the Forums.
Since you need info about a weapon, I would suggest next time you open this topic in the equipment and gear forum section.
And use the Search function, possibly you will find some more up to date info.

What would you like to know?
It will be fielded in August this year in infantry brigades with the Paratroopers being last to recieve it. Each rifle costs 1400$ with the MARS sight.
The weapon is partialy manafuctured in the US (IWI opened a plant there) so that the aid money could be used to buy it.

I heard it wasnt going to be introduced at all due to a lack of money. This is good news then. Do they get it on the military aid program then?

Some of the aid will be used for it.
I think we can't fully pay it with the aid since it's not fully manafuctured in the US, but a part of it will be payed with the aid.

Ok.
just out of interrest do you think its worth them getting it, or do you think the m4 would be better? (Due to the price difference)

Well, it was made by the IDF requirements, unlike the M4 that was made for the American army.
In addition, it makes us less dependant on the US, as we have more Israeli gear our army will be able to mroe freely operate.

I am pretty sure that when the US will field a new weapon in the upcoming years we will recieve tons of free M4s, just like it was with the M16.

The Tavor has also been bought for India's special forces.

I was reading this yesterday but wasnt able to respond yet, i found this bit conflicting, as you still buy the Tavors with American money, transfered some of its production to US and so on, this makes you more dependant on US than not im my view. Moves like these in my oppinion deepen the dependancy rather than lessen it, maybe they should start designing new flag with one more star?

They're not technically free. Money is still exchanged in a way. US military aid to Israel comes along with the condition that the Israeli government spend it on equipment that is something like 70%+ manufacturered in the US. Capitalism at work right, make the aid work for your economy. So basically the M16s are free because Israel doesn't have to spend any of its own money, unlike when it buys domestic systems on which the aid cannot be used.

Its a nice short little bullpup but I never cared for the integrated sights that can't be removed and use ironsights if needed. It seems rather battery heavy.
