It's quick, but as you can clearly see that hand did come off. What the hell could have caused that? I guess we'll have to wait for flagg to chime in to find out how that happened.

looks like something blew up and severed his hand lol ;) he was in stage aswell that must have had something to do with it.

I dunno, I think it was just some sort of backfire, but I don't think the intake is normally that high up, but then again, I don't know that much about racing bikes.

I don't think it severed his hand, I think it just blew the glove off. Explosions don't normally have such a clean cut, they usually mangle flesh. That and I didn't see any blood. But yea, from a mechanical point of view, I'd be interested in hearing Flagg chime in too.

The gas tank has a big hole, too. Don't know how it could happen, but i guess it was really his hand, not the glove.

My GUESS is:

under that tank is the airbox and carbies.....I'm assuming carbies, since I'm pretty sure that Gixxer(circa 97/98-ish model) isn't fuel injected to the best of my knowledge.

If he's running some sort of mad scientist home brew fuel and his fuel/air mixture is all funny and has leaked I could possibly imagine a small explosion MIGHT cause that kind of damage.

Liquid fuel, anything short of rocket fuel, isn't likely to result in a catastrophic detonation like that....unless it's some sort of fuel/air mist that is ignited in a void space......but that's just my unscientific guess.

I'm definitely going to share this one with the fellas in the workshop to see if they have any ideas.

Remember folks, don't buy or ride a Suzuki or you might be your hand blown off.

Better to ride safer, faster and much better looking bikes like Aprilia :)

I'm gonna go out on wire here and say...spark plug.

From the location of the "bang", and where the projectile exits the fairing...A spark plug shot out and took his hand off.

Why? Could've been cross-threaded in, and when he goosed it...Bang...Spark plus shoots out

It's not his hand...look again closely, it blows off a glove and he is wearing another white glove underneath it and still has what appears to be a perfectly intact hand....

He's running a high pressure wet shot of nitrous (it's a drag bike). The line pops where his hand is and detonates. He didn't lose his hand.
