So I'm sitting here alone this evening, as my family is out at the movies and I decide to watch a DvD. A little background, I own about 6 or 7 guy movies. Some suck but they were gifts, some are great because they are gifts. I have Last of the Mohicans, Rob Roy, Black Hawk Down, Tears of the Sun (bad gift) Full Metal Jacket (special edition with a cell from the real movie, great gift, thanks Hot Lips) and a few others like Batman, Spidey etc.... I've seen them all a million times but I'd never seen Ned Kelly. I stumbled across this in my wifes chick flick vault. Now it has Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom in it so I understand the impulse buy, but it's not her kind of movie at all. She must have been quite dissapointed in it. Unintelligable dialogue in weird Irish brogues, filth, gunplay, filth, horses, filth, aborigines, filth and Geoffrey Rush being underutilized as a Victorian era Nazi. Maybe Alan Richman was busy. It has given me new insight into why these Australians have such attitude around here as well as their general lack of personal hygeine. In short, no, I mean in long, it has given me new insight into why they are the way they are.....p-)

How come you didn't go the movies? I thought you said yesterday that you were going to go check out X-Men with your kid.

Hey, got the same thoughts as CJ when I rented that DVD some year ago... Surprisingly good movie, and Rush part was really decently played.

I just got back from helping my Uncle with his new carnie apple crisp wagon, that's right, I am related to carnies. Frankly the movie theatre annoys me and I'd rather watch it later while sitting in bed drinking a beer. I ain't that desperate to see a new release.
OMFG, they just hijacked a circus wagon guy with a monkey.

Haha
Actually, I can kinda see where you are comming from.
If you really want to see a good movie about Australia you should see "Dirty Deeds" It stars, Bryan Brown, Toni Collette, Sam Neil, and the fat guy from Rosanne
Macs.

What about Rabbit-Proof Fence? Good film. I got in a fight with the manager at my local Blockbuster Video because they only had 1 copy of it and it was never there when I went to go rent it. F*cking asshole wouldn't hold it for me. They had 107 copies of that movie Drumline but only one of Rabbit-Proof Fence. It was very upsetting.

I have never seen that one Clete. And do you know why? It has a really stupid name. People don't tune into movies with stupid names unless it's by accident....Just the other day I turned on the TV and I was going through the satellite TV guide and there was a movie called "Ginger Snaps Back:The Beginning" I didn't even want to know how gay that could possibly be and then low and behold it was the only movie channel working. Much to my surprise there was Indians and tomahawks and werewolves and lusty preachers and 2 sisters, one of which is now a werewolf sort of, but still a hot redhead.....

Dude, posting urls really makes me want to take your land and make you act in Crocodile Dundee movies.
I'm attempting to see if I can get California Joe vs. Australia in the same ban category as Balkans and Greeks and Turks....
OK, not really, I just miss Dig.

I don't care if you're offensive just so long as it's funny and that Crocodile Dundee line was hysterical.

Just popping in to post a couple other aussie movies I've enjoyed:
Cosi (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115951/), Muriel's Wedding (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110598/) and The Coca-Cola Kid (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088931/) (which has a fair bit of naked Greta Scacchi in it, which is always a good thing).

No far from it.
I just. It's just everytime I speak/here something from an American about Australia I instantly see my inlaws from Cincinatti. And lets just say they are not the brightest light bulbs in the box.

Just on a side note, I drove next to about 100 miles of the Rabbit Proof Fence yesterday (it actually terminates in the ocean about half an hours drive from my home town.) Didn't find any indiginous kids running away from the wicked government though.
Heath Ledger is a ****wit and I can think of about 100 other people I'd have preferred to see playing that role, even Mick Jagger was a better Ned Kelly in my opinion. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066130/ url for CJ benefit.p-)
And I second Dirty deads as a good flick to watch, The Odd Angry Shot also starring Bryan Brown should also be in your blokes film library.
Dirty Deeds was a great movie, especially the vampire bit.
In reference to Rabbit Proof Fence CJ, don't judge a book by its cover. Its not half bad. Had to watch it at school and it took me by surpirse. One of my mates cousins is in it, so we took the piss out of him for a while.
And for another Aussie movie, try The Nugget
