Hola people.

I am organising and conducting a simple training operation in the near future, and thought I'd share basic details without screaming "HERE WE ARE!". If anyone in the LA area is interested in joining, feel free to reply or PM me with any questions or what have you.

This is the first official training operation-thingy of the loosely-formed training group named the Los Angeles Mountaineers.

Feel free to come up with a humorous name for the operation, as all I can come up with thus far is "Operation - Taco Taster".

-=CONTINGENCIES=-
If the unit:

several members of team would follow contact. More information provided
upon movement to IP.
-RECIEVES SIGNIFICANT INJURIES:
Unit members will assist injured/wounded member and move to nearest
emergency RP for basic treatment. If injury is significant enough
(wounded member cannot move under their own power), SAR will be
contacted.
*If individual recieves injuries that are not significant enough to
cripple him, then he will be assisted by his team members back to the IP,
and the unit will be exfil'ed back home.

-IS DETECTED BY OTHER-THAN-FRIENDLY FORCES:
----LONG RANGE (Binocular distance)
Member who detects contact will signal direction and approximate distance

establish friendly contact with forces in question.
----SHORT RANGE (Within speaking distance)
Team will assume a casual, disciplined, non-threatening posture, and will
provide a friendly corteous greeting to those involved. If asked what we
were doing, the answer is that we are filming a movie as a hobby (not
school, no details when they ask about "who's your teacher?").

-=BASIC NOTES=-
Overall, our "objective" is to complete all waypoints, stay safe and
healthy, and enjoy our outing into the world while gaining practical
training in basic things such as weapons discipline, land navigation
(both day and night/cellestial), basic military mountaineering (basic use
of ropes, if any), physical fitness, teamwork, and various other
patrol-based disciplines (noise, light, tracking, etc).
While the best training seems to pop up when things go wrong and red
stuff comes out of your skin, we will do our best to stay safe and in one
piece during the operation. As the team leader, I know basic first aide,
which means I can patch a hole up and help you get a bit further down the
road so the real guys/professionals can help fix you up. Since we will be
moving in very rugged terrain, be careful and watch your step. Drink alot
of water, as the heat may go up for the operation, and being at least 15
or more miles from any help isn't an ideal place for you to let your
buddies know that you didn't bring enough water.
As the team leader, I am responsible for basic route selection, and will
be taking point. I have gone on this same ground before, with the
exception of the 5 eastern peaks.
As far as gear goes, you will be carrying your airsoft primary
weapon/rifle, magazines for it, etc. I am carrying my shotgun on the side
of my ruck with around 12rds of ammunition. It is to be used in
emergencies only, for things such as signalling or animal control in case
of an "aggressive meeting" with local wildlife. All things aside, you
always find yourself in need of such "life insurance" when you're facing
a 7ft tall bear at close range, and all you have is a pocket knife.
That's an obvious no-go.
I will not reveal any map information here unless personally contacted.
Personal photographs of the area provided to better illustrate elevation
gains and losses, and should help you decide on any specialty gear to
bring, such as climbing aides and other items.
Temperatures will drop below freezing at night on exposed ridgelines, and
actual measured windspeeds do go from 60-70 miles per hour. It gets windy
enough to make a heavy rucksack go friggin' airborne, so be careful.
The people presently involved to go on this operation are mature and
disciplined enough to understand that they have personal responsibilities
and that their actions do reflect upon the unit, and can have
consequences. What we are doing is legal, but pointing a rifle at
someone, no matter how fake the airsoft gun, and no matter how "joking"
the action is, can get you shot and killed in the middle of f*cking
nowhere. The involved members already have training that has them
performing at a mature level. If you lack this, do not inquire.
As our overall goal is to train and "have fun", jokes are appreciated.
Having a strong sense of humor is an excellent quality, so long as one
keeps it within the borders of sound discipline, and doesn't get hurt.

All other information provided upon serious request.

Haha!

Whenever I ask my buddies if they wanna go, it's always something along the lines of "Um.... uh.... I gotta wash my hair that day yeah....".

If you start swimming and walking now, you just might make it Dui!

Good work organizing it. You might want the participants to sign some form of waiver so you don't get sued. I was going to ask if primaries were allowed, but you stated they were, so that's good. Also, because you guys will be in some form of public land, I assume orange tips are a must? (California laws?)

No waiver. I've run waivers before, but I don't feel it is necessary at this moment, as I currently know the individuals coming along, since they aren't first-timers.

As far as orange tips go.... I've yet to have a problem on my previous training deals. Usually run into Forest Rangers or Fire Department folks on duty, and I show them that it doesn't shoot actual rounds, yadda yadda yadda, and we usually just end up talking about plants or bugs or animals and all that. Just gotta be cool about it.

JACKAL: Yer in FRESNO?!?!?! I'm sorry. I used ot have to drive up to central California for work last year. Man, I hated it. The drive back through the grapevine wasn't too bad at night though. Relaxing.

I live in Clovis, right on the borders of Fresno.. I go into Fresno almost every day though..

I am pretty down for this.. But I don't get my license for 3-4 months...

Is there an Age limit on this? I will be 17 in August.. And I have gone back packing before, but not with My AEG.. I would just love that...

TacoDelRio

I don't mind age limits per se. If you are mature, don't go around pointing yer gun at people, and your parents agree on letting you train with us, then I'm fine with it. I've helped train some USMC DEP's (recruits), buddies, civilians, etc. I often train with my buddies from various infantry backgrounds.

This isn't really backpacking, per se, since you will be on the move for a long time straight. Last movement I took in the area had me rucking through the same area for 13 hours straight. I suggest you do some running, just basic runnign for distances of say 2-5 miles or so, on a regular basis, if you do intend to train with us. Take nice, small, measureable steps with goals set before you.

By "us", I am referring to myself as the group organiser, a few civie buddies of mine, and sometimes the occasional soon-to-be military recruit.

On a side note, I haven't been to Clovis in a few years, I think.

Have a good one.

Wow. That sounds really cool. Seeing as I can see those mountains from my bedroom window, I really have no excuse not to go. Is this going to be an ongoing thing? I'm unfortunately out of shape, I need to get my ass in gear before I go out on a multiday ruck march, but I'm definitely down. Can you give me a good idea of where this takes place?

Know where Azusa avenue is? It goes north through the canyons past the reservoirs and such. I train up there, or rather, I use to train up there every week, and that's the easiest way to reach the area. Just take R39/Azusa north until it stops at the barrier-deal-thingy.

It will be an ongoing thing. Unfortunately, there's no snow left up there because this winter was a joke.

If you're more interested, PM me.
