Alright I was curious about qualifying as a SEAL sniper. At what point in a SEAL's training does that option arise. I'm assuming its after STT. Also, what are the qualifications for becoming a SEAL sniper?

Talk to Matchanu, if he's still around here...

A good hint would be going through BUD/S and becoming a SEAL first before trying to become a SEAL Sniper.
But I would goto www.navyseals.com (http://www.navyseals.com) first and look at the info there.

Alright dacan that was brimming with bull **** and you know it. Simply because I asked what the steps to becoming a SEAL sniper doesn't mean I want to become one. I merely want to know what their requirements are.

WHOA! Easy there bud. Thats NOT BS. In actuallity he is the only one to start answering your question. (HooyahCQB pointed you to someone that would know but really didnt answer anything though :) )

Its safe to assume that those were the first steps to becoming a SEAL sniper (assuming your already in the navy of course).

Try not being so trigger happy when you get answers. Half the responses on this forum are smart ass/dumb ass comments, a quarter are irrevelent, and the final quarter are actual answers.

Im sorry dacan it seems kinda like when you said that you were telling me to shut up as another kid on the forums who wants to be a "super cool" sniper. I obviously took that wrong and I apoligize.

Matchanu was brought up because he is a former SEAL team sniper. He could give you the real scoop if he feels like speaking on the issue. Any other information passed along would be second hand at best.

No harm done, I also slightly misread the intent.

I guess this is "second hand" but according to The Finishing School (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1400046548/sr=8-3/qid=1149004269/ref=pd_bbs_3/102-1151616-1905752?%5Fencoding=UTF8) the 12 weeks of training are definitely after SQT (most of the trainees are veteran SEALs with 1 or 2 deployments). The training consists of 2 weeks of the Photo Intelligence Course (PIC), 4 weeks of Scouting/stalking, and 6 weeks of shooting. The requirements were not very clearly given (they appeared to be slightly informal). The best I could figure out from the book was that you must shoot well above the standard expert level with iron sights, have good personal discipline, and it was recommended to have a communications background. And, yes, I would definitely talk to Matchanu.

Dick Couch misinformed? That's impressive. Is The Finishing School worth the money? I just finished reading the Warrior Elite and I was trying to decide whether to buy it or not.

The Finishing School IS recommended by me if you want a close look into advanced training and how it is today. It's like the Warrior Elite for SQT.

Down Range looks pretty good too. I'll have to pick that up someday.

Down Range is quite good. There wasn't as much info as the Finishing School (OPSEC) but it's definitely well worth the price.

It may have changed a bit since I went through NSW Scout/Sniper in 98, but that sounds pretty close.

It was 2 weeks of classroom stuff, 4 weeks of shooting, 4 weeks stalking. All the KIMs, Obs drills, sketching, etc.. were done in tandom with this. Long days, (about 12-18 depending) Standards are very high. Mostly the best stuff taken from the courses offered by the other branches and complied into one course.

Certain personalities are looked for. Having an above avarage shooting ability is a plus.

The NSW course is basic, just like every other SS course. It takes a lot of following courses and experience to get really good at it. It takes a lot of personal inititive and disipline to be good at your craft.

The first requirement is that you have to do 98 push-ups in 2 minutes and 75 sit-ups. Also, you have to be able to eat red meat and shoot far and accurate.
